My opposition to the Iraq War helped to form my political outlook.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I never thought I'd say this, but George W. Bush was the second best president of the 3 most recently inaugurated presidents.

Me, too.  I liked the guy, and he was the POTUS when I was growing up.

The W administration taught me a lot about what I DON'T want government to look like. #ThanksGeorge

George W. Bush caused me to start voting Democratic for Presidential Elections in 2004, after having voted for 3rd Party candidates in '92, '96, and '00.....

This was a direct result of the extreme folly and insanity of the Iraq War, that impacted me on a personal level, as well as long term American economic and foreign policy consequences that were are still living with today....

-The one worse than him, of course, is Obama.

Yes, I, too was disgusted with W. by his last year in office (though I was highly skeptical of Obama due to my fear of him becoming a new FDR), and narrowly preferred Kerry to Bush in 2004 due to the weak recovery. Now, seeing what a horrible, absolute disaster Kerry was as Secretary of State, Bush 2004 sounds awesome, despite how much worse it was to live under Bush 2004 than Obama.

If my opposition to the Iraq War had durably shaped my political outlook, I would probably never have wanted to have anything to do with the US (including universities and fora). So I'm glad he didn't.

There was a time I would feel this way Tongue

To clarify: opposition to Bush certainly helped shape my position on international affairs. Otherwise I've been leaning to the left before.

This is like someone becoming a social democrat because of Francois Hollande.

We have a poster whose username has Blair in it Tongue I'm not alone in cherishing unpopular politicians. Though, recently, I have started having a bit of Kissinger realpolitik streak rather then a Bush era one.

He certainly changed mine.  He's one of the reasons (but not the only one) why I'm a Republican.  Best president of my lifetime thus far (go ahead and ridicule me for saying that.)  His dad may be an exception, but I was two days old when he left office, so I'm not sure he counts all that much.

Unfortunately, he's also a very big reason why the GOP is so badly screwed up now.
