County maps can be made here: https://mapchart.net/

Where in the United States have you traveled to before?

Here's my map:

Where I've been:
Massachusetts (duh... lived here my whole life)
New Hampshire (first time was going to Canobie Lake Park in 2012, went here to get my dog and went to Gunstock last summer)
Rhode Island (only state I can't count how many times I've been... went to two Paw Sox games, aunt and uncle's wedding was here, been to Block Island twice)
Maine (went as a baby)
Connecticut (went to Mystic last summer)
Maryland (went on a school trip to D.C., plane landed in Baltimore-Washington)
D.C. (see Maryland)
Virginia (hotel for said D.C. trip was here, also went on a boat ride that departed from historic Alexandria. Going here this upcoming summer to build houses in Appalachia; staying in Roanoke along the way and the main thing is in Jonesville in Lee County)

Where I'm definitely going in the future:
Pennsylvania (going back from the Appalachia trip we're staying in Carlisle)
Kentucky and Tennessee (building houses here too, not exactly sure what counties so I filled in the general area)

In the trip to Appalachia the van will drive through New York and West Virginia (eastern panhandle), but that doesn't really count unless we stop somewhere.

Define "been to".  If I was only there on an airport layover, does that count?  What if I drove through, but never even got out of the car?

NY, NJ, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, PA, OH, IN, IL, WI, CA, TX, VA, MD, LA, FL, GA, DC.

Hopefully, did not forget any of this.

Of course, if you include airports and pure transit (only stopping in a rest area), I would also add DE and MO.

I intentionally left it ambiguous since some people define "been to" in different ways. Driving can count or not based off the user's discretion.

Major and largeish cities I have been to

Boston (hundred times, probably, for family reasons), Worcester, Springfield MA, Burlington VT (only briefly, though) Hartford, Providence, New Haven, NYC (lived there for years), Newark, Jersey City (lived there for a while), Hoboken (stay there frequently), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, Bloomington IN, Washington DC and suburbs on all sides, including Alexandria, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Tampa, St Petersburgh FL, (West) Palm Beach, Key West, Dallas, Austin, El Paso, New Orleans, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco (and Oakland), San Jose (briefly and long ago). Must be missing a few.

Most of these places I visited as a kid, with no cash. Grehound Bus Lines was the ticket! Used to stay in hostels. Of course, this was years ago. These days I fly - but I also have family.

Not so much more time, as more interest. And, of course, I was alone in the States when I was 16 - no immediate family, no nothing. 16 to 25 is a good traveling age - and those were my US years.

I keep my map updated in the gallery for the many threads like this. The key is red for residences, dark blue for overnight stay, light blue for intentional destinations, and green for drive through (including gas and meal stops).

Residence States

California (Home)

Idaho (Visited my sis up in Rexburg)

Illinois (One Thanksgiving in Chicago/Champaign with a few friends)

Indiana (Drove through to get to Chicago, stretched legs in Indianapolis)

Nevada (Vacations up at Lake Tahoe, the only part of the state that 100% rocks)

New Jersey (Vacations)

New Mexico (Family that spilled over from Arizona)

North Carolina (Spring Break in Asheville, lots of back and forth flying from Virginia to San Francisco via Charlotte)

Ohio (Drove through to get to Chicago, definitely stretched legs in Dayton)

Pennsylvania (Friend in the Landenberg area, also a few days in Philly)

South Carolina (Various school break vacations)

Tennessee (Various school break vacations)

Utah (Family, vacations, hiking)

As Potus put it, all the elitist urban bubbles -- the east coast (save north of Boston), the west coast, Chicago, and the outlier - Houston. 21 in all.
