Ben Cardin is ridiculously old at 73 years. Odds are that he does not run for reelection.  Usually there is a split between the black Democrats and the white suburbanite Democrats during the Senate primaries. Ben Cardin has never been fully popular among the black Democrats, already facing a strong primary challenge in 2012. if so, who runs?

If Cardin doesn't run, probably John Sarbanes. I think he's been waiting for his dad's seat.

If Cardin doesn't run, Donna Edwards or maybe Martin O'Malley, though he might be done in politics after his DNC campaign excited even less people than his presidential campaign.

My money's on John Sarbanes running if Cardin passes. Elijah Cummings might toy with it like he did this past year, but he won't actually do it.

73 years old is NOT ridiculously old by any standard in American politics. And nor should he retire. He is one of the best Democrats in the Senate.

By the Time he would be done with his potential 3rd term, he would be 81. That is old.

It's old, but it's not like it's unprecedented in the Senate. I would rather if he retired, but it's not guaranteed.

McCain just started his newest term at 80.
Feinstein is 83.
Robert Byrd died at 95; Thurmond left office and died at 100.

Yea, 81 would be a bit old but not ancient compared to others.

The Dems really need to get these geriatrics to retire, this is why their bench is so pitiful. Instead of Feinstein in CA we could have John Chiang or Xavier Becerra in MD Heather Mizeur, Donna Edwards, Marilyn Mosby.

I almost want Sarbanes to just get it over with and run so they'll get rid of that ridiculous looking district of his.

Maybe he'll get the Republicans to stop running the country into the ground like he got those white kids to stop running in his lobby.

Clearly Hogan who has a 500% approval rating will get so many votes in Maryland that he'll also become a Senator from Delaware.

Seriously though, the person Wulfric suggested I guess.

Allan Kittleman could run, being elected in a >60% Clinton county. Chrys Kefalas would be another strong recruit.
