As already said in the other threads... only for those currently detained in airports. It still prevents anyone else with a nationality in those 7 countries from entering.

This guy is saying the stay applies to those with legal status in the United States.

Im just trying to figure out what going on. Right now I think the stay applies to all those with lawful status, i.e alot more than 200.

I think this applies to anyone who has legal status in the United States .

The stay protects those here and those who manage to get here.

So basically this corrects this to how the change in policy should have been implemented. No new visas until Trump can finish poking his fingers into it, but those already granted are still in force.

Not according to ACLU which only mentions those currently in US not those who get here.

The Stay Order says anyone with a valid U.S visa. I don't care what their statements say, the order says it right there.

I mean, this isn't much, but it's better than nothing, and it's good to know that Trump can't just get away with literally anything.

The irony is that of course the “powerless” will one day become powerful again. You were powerless once and you will be again. You're making the same mistake as Obama's loyalists did and assume theee actions are written in stone. You're kind of no different from the Obama people in January 2009 and you get to mock them and comfort yourself with the delusion that Trump's executive orders are going to last forever.

You do understand, however, that in four to eight years a new Democrat will be in power and undo the ban and reverse the immigration law? Instead of building the popular will for these orders you repeat Obama's mistake of allowing it to become a polarizing issue that can be reversed.

It's amazing that you know the lessons from short termism and yet you repeat them.

It's kind of amazing that the Republicans continue to fall into the trap of making themselves radically unpopular in the major cities, and the urban dominated states. Sure this executive order won't do it but multiply these issues over the next 4-8 years and that's a compelling case for a liberal White House to reign. And I'm not so sure you can overturn their issues as easily as you did the last one. We aren't becoming more conservative… the 2020s and 2030s are more likely to make us more liberal.

Increasingly I don't think the Republicans are thinking anymore about elections and have decided to go out in a blaze of glory. The unfortunate part is that by being so ideological and reactionary they're giving the Democrats the space to learn from Obama and Trump to create a more durable liberal country.

In other words, the Republicans seem hell bent to go with “What goes around comes around.“

I locked this thread temporarily until I finished cleaning it up, and I didn't have the time to do more than delete whole posts, so sorry if stuff otherwise worth keeping went. Focus on responding to posts, not posters people!

My previous summary was too generous.

Anyone with a VISA can still travel to the US... but the US can still stop issuing VISAs to those in the 7 countries, and those detained don't need to be released they just can't be deported.

Love the Atlas forum.

Refugee ban will be implemented slowly to begin with, and then it will be permanent.

Trump will make up some excuse about wanting to understand what is going on.

The interesting thing will be to see the poll on whether Americans support a ban on this policy.

Probably continued divided support for the policy. Trump isn't as a genius as you make out to be even if you unquestioniningly believe in your God-Emperor. The roll out of the order was a blunder.

I do think this is the kind of order that will remain in place but will be remembered as a colossal and strategic blunder that imperiled American foreign policy against the war on Radical Islam.

What matters more here is the impression that Trump has created: He enacted another one of his campaign promises and can now blame the "liberal" courts for dismantling it again.

But in the eyes of his voters he has won and scored another point.

Apparently the government was just as confused about the order as we were.  The White House had pushed to have green card holders included in the order after DHS offered a different legal interpretation of the order when it was issued.

I dont like Trump. I dont hate Trump.

Remember when you were a child and you were non-political and George Bush was some stiff old guy in a suit your parents would argue about. And you were totally uninterested.

That's me.

If Donald takes Kim Jun-Un's head off, i will be impressed.

I am only here at Atlas to find out about your opinions on Trump, US politica etc.

I find the whole process fascinating, and in a way, like Trump, i find the news media in Australia a fake show.

So this site is my news website.

The only drawback is that the Snowflakes are higher in number and louder than the Republicans.

Hence getting a handle on current US opinion on this issue is difficult.

Roughly 100.000-150.000 people living in Austria are currently unable to travel to the US because they are either citizens of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan or Somalia - or Austrian citizens who also hold citizenship/passports of these countries.

Great, our airports are becoming mini-GITMOs of legal limbo.
