Meh.

When they're sincere, FF

When they're not and are hacks, HP

They also objectively look terrible a lot of the time.

Your avatar has the ugliest color.

I actually happen to like the look of it much more than orange avatars and certain red and light green avatars, although almost all of the New York ones look bad for some reason. You're just not as used to brown ones since they're uncommon

No, I just think beige is an inherently sh*tty color.

I tried on an orange avatar since I am a member of a small Christian Democratic party but went back to green for now because the look just wasn't working for me.  I could go back to blue to stand for conservative in a broad sense but I don't really want to be associated with the GOP as it currently exists.

I actually like the beige colored-avatars more than the maroon ones, and not because of any ideological reasons. And the reason NY avatars might look weird is the unnecessary addition of Lake Erie.

I also like the look of I-VA more than D-VA, but that's because the letters are squished into the state and the red-on-white is somewhat undesirable. I like the 90s feel of this forum, but we could really use some modernized avatars.

Maybe we could create some light shading for Pub/Dem avatars, and possibly some of the 3rd Party avatars to indicate "leaners" when it comes to voting patterns, ideology and the like....

Personally, I do find the light green as not a particularly strong avatar, visually speaking....

My thought is that once many of the "leaners" gravitate towards a lighter color, we can take a much stronger color, such as Medium-Dark Gray to represent the relatively small number of true Independents on the Forum....

The history of the Orange avatar is interesting, but now that was apparently a joke concept associated with an opinion of the UVF poll, makes it even more absurd, and quite frankly is a bit of an affront to my aging eyes..... Wink

What would the actual letters on the avatars be? Would the light blue be "R-State", "I-Sate", or something else entirely?

My thought is we keep them the same.... the shading should say it all.... An alternative might be to do for example: LS (Lean Socialist), LD (Lean Democrat), LL (Lean Libertarian), etc, but I think that would make it too visually cluttered.

So right now, I believe we have eight different "Political Party Avatars". If we simply add eight levels of shading for "leaners" that can be easily captured using shading for Democratic, Republican, Green, and Socialist avatars.... Libertarians should be doable as well with a dark yellow/light yellow.

Now, do we really need two avatars for independents---- "leaners and pure"?

Likely not---- to avoid confusion with the "Lean Green" we need a distinctive neutral color, such as Gray, since after all this is neutral shading and more representative of the political ideology once we remove the leaners.....

The "other" category should remain for obvious reasons, although I don't believe we need "leaner shading".... Personally, I find the "other" category confusing, but obviously we look at an SNP voter, Basque, Welsh, Turkish Kurdish, US Maoist, French Trot, etc.... there needs to be a clearly defined other that is outside of the realm of traditional American politics.

One could argue that shifting the Independent shading from a light Green to a Gray will cause some major heartburn for our Constitution Party members.... Maybe purple or violet would work for them? Open to suggestions of course, since naturally any changes to existing party avatars would require both an active population of Forum members supporting these changes, some type of Democratic debate and possibly voting, the technical/coding changes required which naturally would entail some labor from our awesome volunteer community.....

Not sure if "leaners" is even an option, but just throwing the idea out there for further discussion and debate, especially if it removes that annoying light Green visual for independents!!! Smiley
