Since we seem to be down to two names on SCOTUS, who do you think will be Trump's nominee?

Here are Wikipedia bios on the two top contenders:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Gorsuch

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Hardiman

The announcement will be on Tuesday at 8 pm so this poll will be open just 2 days.

Gun to my head, Hardiman, but it could honestly be either. Who can really know what goes on in Trump's head?

Hardiman will definitely be harder to filibuster....he might be like a Kennedy, Roberts, or Rheinquist but probably about where Scalia was.

Gorsuch is probably at least as conservative as Scalia.

I went for Hardiman as well.  I am figuring Trump's thought process to be something along these lines:

1. Both are good and have many supporters
2. My sister says Hardiman is great
3. I like my sister
4. ...and she is a Judge, so she must know what she is saying
5. Hardiman it is!

My guess is Hardimann...he's not Ivy Leauge and looks like your average every day joe. Grousch comes from privilege and literally looks like a gray hair clone of Roberts

Georgetown is ranked 10 and Cornell is ranked like 14. Its still an "upper class" law school but looks "middle class" compared to Harvard, Yale, and Columbia, ranked 1,2, and 4 by USNWR.

Maybe but Hardimann would throw a wrench into Dems plan to filibuster...this is the guy who literally volunteers on weekends to help Hispanics who cant speak English with legal problems. He has no known record on abortion, and actually has a personality.

He's the perfect candidate to cause the Dems filibuster to blow up in their face. Trump is literally trolling the Dems with Looney Toon tactics

Yeah we might better just confirm him and let the Religious Right go on the warpath. He's an improvement over Scalia

I'm all for endlessly fillbustering whoever they nominate but Trump has said he's ok with nuking the filibuster and you know his ball washers in the Senate will immediately follow suit. The Dems are just lousy at pulling off PR stunts like the Republicans and this could come back to hurt them especially if Ginsgburg croaks and the GOP gain even more seats in 2018

There's other tools than the filibuster. But hey, if the filibuster is abolished, that means Democrats can pass all their laws in two weeks once they are in charge again.

Honestly, I'd rather see a radical leftie on the Court than another Souter. I'm sick and tired of all the "moderates".

Souter was clearly a leftie , moderates are Kennedy and Roberts

What other tools besides the filibuster is available?
They could deny quorum.

Gorsuch.

Steve Bannon is the only person other than perhaps Jared Kushner preventing a quasi-coup by the GOP establishment via Pence, Priebus and Ryan. Trump doesn't have the strength or appetite to fight for his choice on something like this.

Solicitor General: As you can see, the intention here was to-

Justice Judy: I don't care what you intended! You are wrong!

At that rate, how about going all the way and putting Judge Jeanine Pirro in? Smiley

Scott Baio

Trump: "What, the nominee has to be a lawyer?  Enough with that,  enough.  He was with me from the beginning.  If that's not good judgement, I don't know what is. The best judgement."

This just in: "Senate Dems will filibuster Trump’s Supreme Court nominee"

An interesting choice for GOP, after this announcement - do they nominate Gorsuch and go nuclear, or nominate Hardiman and try to undermine the Democratic unity?  Of course, Trump may not care what the GOP thinks and will do his thing.

Based on reports, it looks like Democrats may back off an all out war (link below), but will the final choice change their minds?
