The political norms break down further. This is disturbing.

No leftist (or anyone who opposes Trump) in his or her right mind should even be contemplating a military coup, not least because the average soldier stands head and shoulders with Trump.

Well obviously this shouldn't be allowed, but it isn't that big of a deal.

Actually, it's a big deal. The military of the United States cannot be political or demonstrate any preference/allegiance/support for a cause for any particular entity or organization besides the United States of America.

Yes, but this sounds like it was probably some individual soldiers who were showing support for Trump without thinking about the implications. It would be different if it was the whole convoy or if Trump or a high ranking officer or official ordered it or something.

What's wrong with honering the president?

You would have **** yourself if that happened a few years ago with an Obama flag.

It is a HUGE deal -- a breakdown of military discipline. Partisan politics is not a legitimate part of military display. Soldiers are prohibited from participating in partisan political campaigns while in uniform. A campaign flag from military equipment?

What's wrong with honering the president?

Precisely. President Obama would have ordered that such a flag be removed from military equipment or buildings.  But he is an honest man and a stickler for protocol and precedent.

While it would be a bigger scandal if someone like that made these events take place, any official military vehicle or soldiers on-duty cannot do it either, as they represent the military in its entirety.

And here we have Exhibit B why the Democrats shouldn't be licking our lips at the prospect of open rebellion against the government - we'd lose, badly.

I guess my hopes for Trump being removed via military coup are now out the window.

Maybe this is also an argument to return to the draft. An all-volunteer force has left our military arsenal disproportionately in the hands of reactionary white people from Republican states.

What's wrong with honoring the president?

With the usual formalities? Nothing. Endorsing his partisan politics? Everything.

Big deal. This sort of thing with being overly politically correct is the reason Trump was elected in the first place.

Not wanting the military to exist as the armed faction of a political party is political correctness?

1. Read the dictionary definition of political correctness.

2. Delete your post.
