Useful, in the sense that once made I immediately know the speaker is historically illiterate and not worth arguing with. Trump may be awful, but he's not Hitler-tier awful.

I would vote HP if it were an FF/HP choice, but in this case I'll say "Has a point" in some cases. One should be very, very careful with these sorts of comparisons though--which is not to say that one should not make them.

Early Hitler in his first few months in office was much better behaved than he would be in his later years. Hitler was much more docile , he was not the genocidal raving lunatic that he would become until later on. There was no military regalia or Nazi uniform and he dressed as a plain looking bureaucrat in a suit.

So maybe Trump is like Hitler, but only in his early Chancellorship.
