I wouldn't mind a moderate reduction of immigration and the family visa program. It's clear this family visa program was troublesome from the start, to be honest. However, cutting immigration by half is way too much, and would be both a moral and economic disaster, at least within 10 years.

Why do we need a reduction in immigration? If anything we need to dramatically increase the number of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers into our country.

Not shocking. Even less shocking is Harding's dislike of “minority immigrants.˝

It's a sad and unfortunate day that so many Americans are willing to embrace immigration reduction and turning our back on those seeking refuge or a better life in our country. I can't understand any objection to our current levels of immigration, which is already quite low. The only opposition seems to stem from either either bigotry or an unfounded fear of immigrants negatively affecting our economy.

We aren't being "overrun" or any other scaremongering term used to refer to Mexican immigration, Hispanic immigration, Asian immigration, or any other immigration. Who cares if the demographics of the United States substantially change? There's no reason to prefer or preserve our current or previous demographics, aside from an emotional reaction to seeing different people and different cultures.

-Just low enough to supposedly (according to less discerning people) lead to the Emerging Democratic Majority. Or, perhaps, an Emerging New Mexico. I honestly wouldn't like either of those options. I'm not against all immigration, just prefer to err on the side of caution.

Jesus Christ, stop fearmongering about Mexicans, you bigot. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Mexicans. But aside from that, Mexican immigration is nowhere near high enough to lead to an "Emerging New Mexico" and has actually been declining lately, being replaced by increasing levels of immigration from Asia. Honestly, I'd rather live around decent people of Mexican heritage than White people like you.

Great to see the usual suspects blatantly promoting white supremacist garbage. Equally nice to see they've dropped their always unbelievable premise this s#!t was solely over "illegal immigrants ".

Do you think everyone everywhere has the right to live in the United States? You realize very few, if any, other countries allow people to become citizens on demand?

This isn't about allowing "citizenship on demand" you dolt, and no one but you has blithered such notions, or fails to realize the curent myriad immigration and naturalization process is a million miles from such fantastical nightmares.

Immigration brings the hardest working, most entrepreneurial , most energetic and America loving people from around the world. There isn't a single idiotic utterance you're making which wasn't bantered with equal foolishnees about Italian, Asian, and East European immigrants a century and a half ago.

No one here is fooled in believing that if most immigration came from England, Germany , and Ireland that your views would change dramatically .

Isn't it amazing that you have a liberal Democrat and a Republican agreeing on this issue against other members of both parties? All this rhetoric against immigrants being espoused here, either due to opposition to diversity or supposed negative effects on our economy, are due to bigotry or lack of understanding regarding economics.

You just want to import voters, while the other @sshole just wants cheap labor. Those of us in the middle have caught on to this nonsense that has been going on in this country for decades. So you can take your charges of racism and economic ignorance and shove it up your @sses.

Oh, quit your histrionic nonsense. Badger isn't some champion of cheap labor and I'm not interested in importing Democratic voters. I simply believe we're a nation of immigrants who can and should be a land of opportunity as well, not only for those who had the random chance of being born here, but for those not born here as well. Those immigrants not only positively contribute to our country socially and culturally, but economically as well since the more people working and spending money here, the more jobs will be created for others. It's simple economics. There should be, of course, robust minimum wage and fair labor laws to protect both native and immigrant workers, so that everyone benefits. You're simply ignorant of the basics of economics, thus you target immigrants as a scapegoat. This is nothing new, but it doesn't change the fact that you're wrong.
