Politico: Cotton and Trump plot crackdown on legal immigration

I wouldn't mind a moderate reduction of immigration and the family visa program. It's clear this family visa program was troublesome from the start, to be honest. However, cutting immigration by half is way too much, and would be both a moral and economic disaster, at least within 10 years.

Why do we need a reduction in immigration? If anything we need to dramatically increase the number of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers into our country.

No we don't. All you want is more votes, you don't care that an increase in the supply of labor will drive down wages, and cause housing prices to continue to skyrocket. We should be limiting immigration to people who are highly skilled, that would fill a shortage. They should also be paid above the prevailing wage for their field. Because if there was a shortage of workers relative to the demand then wages would go up.

I'm sick of the far left assholes and the wealthy elite using immigration to screw the rest of us over.

No one here is fooled in believing that if most immigration came from England, Germany , and Ireland that your views would change dramatically .

This isn't the late 19th, or early 20th century anymore you jackass. There is no sparsely populated west looking to be settled. There are no newly opened factories desperate for workers. We are entering an age where labor is becoming less and less necessary, yet morons keep going on about how since we are  a nation of immigrants, then we can never change our immigration policy and start putting our own citizens first.

All this rhetoric against immigrants being espoused here, either due to opposition to diversity or supposed negative effects on our economy, are due to bigotry or lack of understanding regarding economics.

Oh, quit your histrionic nonsense. Badger isn't some champion of cheap labor and I'm not interested in importing Democratic voters. I simply believe we're a nation of immigrants who can and should be a land of opportunity as well, not only for those who had the random chance of being born here, but for those not born here as well. Those immigrants not only positively contribute to our country socially and culturally, but economically as well since the more people working and spending money here, the more jobs will be created for others. It's simple economics. There should be, of course, robust minimum wage and fair labor laws to protect both native and immigrant workers, so that everyone benefits. You're simply ignorant of the basics of economics, thus you target immigrants as a scapegoat. This is nothing new, but it doesn't change the fact that you're wrong.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Even with a minimum wage, creating a glut of labor still creates downward pressure on wages to that minimum level. Unless the immigrant is highly skilled and can fill a shortage, or they come over with enough money to start a business of their own, then they are taking a job away from a citizen. Their spending won't generate enough of a multiplier to make up for the lost jobs and depressed wages.

Our trade deals and immigration policy are what has caused stagnating wages for more than 3 decades. Whole regions of our country have been left to rot, and you've clearly showed your disdain for the workers who got screwed over, so you've decided to use those immigrants to replace the working class voters that used to make up the base of the Democratic party. You don't give a crap about the working class. Your virtue signalling over immigrants is a ruse, you are really just full of crap.
