Why do we need a reduction in immigration? If anything we need to dramatically increase the number of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers into our country.
We're probably at the optimal level of immigration now. It's reasonably easy for high-skill or entrepreneurial immigrants to come here. Because of quality of life issues, it's not surprising that they'd want to able to bring their close family as well. I wouldn't mind tweaking the system to make the proportion of immigrants who arrive here legally higher, but going higher on the total number of immigrants would impede our ability to sew them into the American tapestry.
