it's cheap to ask the same question in germany, poland, spain and effing UK.

germany and austria have after all welcomed thousands and thousands of refugees......UK/SPAIN did nothing.

It's interesting that once Trump and the u.s are removed from the picture Europe supports similar policies to Trumps

similar to what he says or does?

there is no real force in most countries which would even really try to end legal muslim migration.

But is that because it's less popular than in the US, or because the electoral systems in European countries make it impossible for someone like Trump to take over one of the major parties in the way he did with the GOP?

it would surely be harder in europe to take over a major party without real primary systems but.....we have enough natural maniacs who mostly talk about shutting down the refugee system.....not legal migration.

imho the wished-for checks and balances are working in a better way but that could be just my bias.

Well, that did happen with the Austrian FPÖ, formerly a liberal party. It's not necessarily impossible to take over a major party, but it is impossible to lead that party to an absolute majority. But yeah, I agree with your main point.

you are technically correct, but since the party literally was built on a foundation of former NSDAP members, i think this setting would be quite...unique.

law and order,

you teached us right. Smiley

seems kind of unthinkable.

even headscarf bans get regularily killed if they are somehow connected with official institutions....crosses in court rooms are endangered in that area.

i guess mexican would be most comparable with the poor inhabitants of ex-communist countries of eastern europe and that challenge was solved more or less, imho.

outside of the united kingdom, it's not really a successful political idea to rage against poles and croats, afaik.

the cultural muslim question is much more explosive, ofc but to my knowledge, inside of "western" europe (aka the EU minus some eastern european countries which could have discussed such actions without my knowledge) nobody has ever proposed a total migration ban for muslims.

Not really. Most Europeans find the fear of Mexican immigration to be asinine, and Trump's temperament to be vile regardless of their tepid agreement on a single issue.

Sure it is.

In the context, Mexicans are the same as Arabs, Turks and North Africans.

hm...nay.

mexicans are culturally closer and numerous...east europeans imho.

and campaigns against turkish migration have never been successful.

And were rolled back through centuries of reconquest (with numerous setbacks) ending with the first Balkan war 1912-13, thus reinforcing their role as the external enemy European identity was defined against.

ironically, islam became an official religion of the austrian empire at that time. Smiley
