In any hypothetical scenario (except for a candidate saying something like they're going to kill people), how could a 50-state landslide be achieved, or is it totally impossible?

One candidate is indicted for serious criminal charges sometime around late september

I wonder if this could happen if something like 9/11 happened right before an election, and the President did an adequate job of responding to it.

I understand how people think she's a terrible candidate, but she's... just not. She would expose Trump as a whiny baby, she's defeated an incumbent Republican senator, and she doesn't have a huge establishment backing. On top of all that, progressives like her (although not as much now, she didn't endorse Bern man)

For this to happen in 2016, Trump would have needed 62.0% of the popular vote and Clinton would have needed 71.2% of the popular vote. Of course, Trump would have needed more to win DC and Clinton would have needed more to win NE-03.

Voter suppression or only having one candidate appear on the ballot is about the only path I can see to a 50-state victory if we include DC in the mix.

she's defeated an incumbent Republican senator

In a situation where there was only one in the first place due to a low Dem turnout in a special election in a heavily Dem state.
