depends on the timeline.

i am pretty sure bush and obama weren't hated as much at this point of their presidency as trump even while bush obviously has had all this florida mess around his neck and obama was a kenyan muslim.

It's really hard to beat conservatives' hatred of Obama...I'd say it's about tied with liberals' hatred of Trump.

Isn't there polling data out there that can answer this for us?

Trump is most definitely far more hated than Bush ever was. It's not close. I hated every minute of the Bush presidency, but I never saw Bush as a megalomaniac sociopath who could at any minute initiate a nuclear holocaust. He was just a really bad president who made a number of horrible decisions.

Conservatives hate of Obama was always completely irrational, I'm not sure exactly what to make of that. Sure they didn't like his political agenda and that's fair enough. But the guy was a true class act who had no personal scandals and behaved himself in an amazingly dignified manner. If he had been a conservative, the republicans would have hailed him as the second coming of christ.

Conservatives hated Obama about the same as they hated Bill Clinton. It wasn't world historic hatred.

Which is itself actually historical...have to go back to McKinley and the Gilded Age to get anything close to the polarized type of hatred The Right had against Bill.

The President's average approval ratings throughout their terms according to Gallup:

Kennedy 70.1%
Eisenhower 65.0%
Bush Sr. 60.9%
Johnson 55.1%
Clinton 55.1%
Reagan 52.8%
Bush Jr. 49.4%
Nixon 49.0%
Obama 47.9%
Ford 47.2%
Carter 45.5%
Truman 45.4%
Trump 43.5% (own calculation based on the daily tracking poll)

http://www.gallup.com/poll/116677/Presidential-Approval-Ratings-Gallup-Historical-Statistics-Trends.aspx

So, ever since the presidency of the elder Bush, the president's average approval ratings have been in decline.

Does this mean Trump will be succeeded by a president who's average job approval will be around 40% at best?

5. Richard Nixon
Came in at 45%
Topped out at 56% (May 1969)
Bottomed out at 11% (Jan, April, July 1974)

Bottomed out at 12% (Sep-Nov, 1980)
Left at 14%
33.75

8. Ronald Reagan
Came in at 39%
Topped out at 52% (April 1991)
Bottomed out at 17% (February 1983)

Obama by conservatives. The level of hatred for this president has not been seen since the civil war and the Southerner’s hate for Honest Abe.

Feels like Trump, but we're less than a month in.  Give peace a chance.

You didn't offer Clinton as a choice?  You may or may not be old enough to remember 1993 but many people were foaming, rabid, crazy against Bill Clinton.  I remember in December 1992, a month before he even took office, I saw a car with an IMPEACH CLINTON bumper sticker.

It's suicidal too. The Dems think they can pull a coalition out of the Anti-Trumpers and are gonna get bent over in 2018 and 2020 if they don't change their thinking.

Kinda hard to give "peace a chance" when out of the gate he is acting like a corrupt, bigoted, authoritarian

Except for some Trumpists who ride his jock because their ideology doesn't extend beyond "what do rural White people like?"

Anywho, it honestly might be Bush by liberals ... I question how many here were old enough to remember that.  Conservatives could at least phrase their Obama hatred as hatred for the very institution of the federal government and how invasive it is, liberals LITERALLY hated the person of George W. Bush, and it seemed all the more venomous given Bush's likable PERSONAL style.

Obama by conservatives. Having a Black man as president inspired millions of racist right-wing extremists to join antigovernment militia groups he'll-bent on overthrowing the government. In fact, they almost killed the police they claim to love so much in Bunkerville, Nevada.

Somehow, I do not think that Trumpists really hold an ideology beyond whatever their God-Emperor tells them and some sort of vague primordial nationalism.

This illustrates the growing trend of polarization to some extent. The frothing hatred of these last few Presidents by their opponents is not historically typical.
