Yes and it should be a holiday nationwide. August needs holidays in the US.

No.  If anything, we need fewer government holidays.

Presidents day already exists. It would be ridiculous to make a holiday for Obama or any other President.

Never. He wasn't nearly a good enough president for that.

No. But dems should try to invest what little power they have in congress in attempting to make this happen.

The GOP thanks you.

This.  Let's keep the bar high for these types of things.  If Illinois for some reason is that obsessed with Obama in 50 years, fine, make it a state holiday (just as Texas is more than welcome to do the same for George W. Bush one day, if they actually want to).

People are conveniently forgetting that George W. Bush was a failure. Hopefully people will realize that soon. Elder Bush is more likely, as he is far more well liked and respected.

Then again, both Bushes were born in New England. It wouldn't make sense.

If Lincoln's birthday is not a holiday, why the hell would Obama's be?

If anything should be a holiday, it's Obama's birthday, which I put on equal footing with Christmas, the Epiphany, Pentecost, and Yom Kippur

This is a thread on a message board, yet some people here are acting like it's an actual bill in Congress.

You sound almost as computer-y as Computer89.  I didn't comment on whether or not Bush 43 was a failure, which was made blatantly obvious by the context of my sentence, which drew a simple comparison between our two most recent Presidents and their home states (which is almost always defined as the state they chose to run from, not where they born ... Reagan was from CA, not IL), making the point that if a state wants to chuck another stupid holiday on the calendar, so be it.
