A Match Made In Hell:

Mayor Dent's term in office has largely been spent on eradicating the Children of Arkham. Within the first five months, the Children of Arkham easily crumbled with their leadership divided. With one half hospitalized and the other half forced to evade the law, any chance at a major operation vanished. By late March, Lady Arkham was captured after one of her currently unidentified lieutenants got cold feet and blocked her off from the chance to escape with him or her. By the confirmation that Vicki Wayne was indeed captured during early April, wiping out the remaining Children of Arkham was a mere formality. Bruce Wayne remained under the operating table, and none of the remaining lieutenants could maintain the morale needed for the revolutionary group. The remainder of May and the entire month of June saw no noticeable Children activity, allowing Mayor Dent over a month of normal governing before the next crisis.

The trial against Bruce Wayne never materialized. While Wayne's surgeons successfully reconnected the muscular tissue and the lower layers of the skin from Wayne's vertical face wound, the upper layers of the skin faced complications. The incision became infected twice, and almost got infected a third time. As a result, a deep red scar remains on Wayne's face, occasionally causing pain when the nerve endings are bothered. This constant battle with the injury combined with residue from the White Rose has led to erratic behavior from Mr. Wayne that may make prosecuting him difficult. Wayne occasionally drifts away into heated tangents about chance and how "he's always been shafted raw by it." He is often seen idly flipping a damaged two-headed coin his father gave him as a gift once, and becomes absolutely livid when separated from that coin. The coin has even come to influence his decision-making, in which he flips the coin between two options before deciding major decisions. While most of his crimes were committed pre-incident, Mr. Wayne's behavior makes him a liability in regards to hailing into court and for testimony.

None of this came to matter, as Wayne escaped from the medical center's custody on June 30th. While Gotham's judicial system has issued a bench warrant against Wayne, Mayor Dent has done his best to preserve normalcy for Gotham, especially for its annual Independence Day parade and celebrations. Sadly for Dent, Wayne made sure that July 4th would be anything but normal for Harvey. Early that morning, Mayor Dent found his wife and teenaged children missing from his home. Shortly after, a recording leaked to the press of the Dent family held hostage in Wayne Manor by Bruce Wayne himself, who has tattooed himself on the left side of his damaged face for it to give off a veiny blue appearance. Wayne demands for the vigilante Batman to come to Wayne Manor and reveal his identity to Gotham City, and only then will he allow Gilda Dent and her children freedom. If the Gotham police arrive, he kills them one by one until they leave. If Harvey Dent shows up, he will kill them all at once. Batman has 48 hours to arrive. Mayor Dent made an announcement to the press that he will not personally intervene, and that the "GCPD better not send a single officer to Wayne Manor." After making that statement, Mayor Dent has been not been able to be located by even his closest staff.

Batman's Ultimate Trial:

Soon enough, Batman arrived to Wayne Manor in less than three hours from Wayne's initial announcement to Gotham's news outlets. Wayne thanked Batman for his earliness, claiming that "even a flying rat can act professionally." While having a goon record the entire ordeal and keeping his semiauto pistol pointed at the Dent family, Wayne relayed the ultimatum to Batman. Unmask himself for all of Gotham to see, and the Dents go. No coin flip, no lying, no other strings at all. Batman's first question was "Even if you don't like the result?" Wayne just grinned as he scratched the blue half of his face and replied with a distorted "Yes." While Wayne gave time to Batman mull the decision over, Batman saw himself faced with three different potential futures....

Option One: Batman Unmasks Himself.

Finding the risk of the Dent family dying too strong, Batman may accept Bruce Wayne's demands and reveal his identity. The legal repercussions are unclear as to whether or not local, state, or federal government would arrest and then prosecute Batman, but one certain consequence is the destruction of Batman's secrecy. That in itself may and likely will hamper Batman in the future, but sometimes one must sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Batman has certainly done so in the past. This decision also hinges on the possibility that Bruce Wayne is lying to Batman, and if he is, then this option becomes lose-lose. Even if Wayne lets the Dents go, the two-faced villain still relies on his coin for even reactions, so Batman himself may be jeopardized. All around, revealing his identity as Wayne asks remains a wild card for Batman. It may pay off well, or it could be the worst option.

Option Two: Batman Convinces Wayne To Give Up.

If possible, Batman might be able to demoralize Bruce Wayne into giving up and letting the Dents go without revealing his secret identity. Whether Batman does this by appealing to the human side of Bruce or by talking him down to submission is up in the air, as both could succeed or fail. If Batman does succeed, then Wayne will more likely than not let the Dents go anyway, but of course, there is no guarantee. Likewise, there is also no guarantee how Bruce will use his coin to determine his own fate once his spirit is crushed. Batman would prefer to bring Wayne to justice rather than letting him evade lifelong consequences by taking the easy way out. Still, if this meant making the best compromise in order to keep his identity secret AND to keep the Dent's safe, talking Wayne down might be worth Wayne committing suicide. Wayne may even flip to turn himself in anyway. Just like with revealing his identity, Batman's also faces an enigma for an answer to this question.

Option Three: Batman Must Kill Bruce Wayne.

Batman considers this less a potential option and more of a last resort should Bruce Wayne let the Two-Face side of him win and fail to back down. It is a near certainty that Bruce Wayne will attack Batman, the Dents, or both if Batman's down-talking enrages him. The killing would most likely be seen as justified, but again, Batman wants to see Bruce Wayne brought to justice rather than being dealt with quickly and shortly. Still, if Two-Face goes to the point of return, then Batman killing him is all that can be done at that point. Though Batman would be unsatisfied with that resolution, this option is by far the most likely to end well for his secret identity as well as the Dent family. After all, a dead Two-Face cannot flip a coin. Despite this truth, Batman will not kill Wayne without an instigation first, so Batman must be quick enough should said instigation arise.

You have 48 hours to choose Batman's decision. Since this is a special finale with less traditional choices for the vote, you may change your vote within that time limit. Vote as you think specifically Batman would do. As a treat, Batman's secret identity will be revealed on a meta level after this finale's epilogue ends, but the in-character world will ONLY know Batman's identity should Option One be chosen. Otherwise, the majority of the characters and the outside world will remain ignorant of Batman's secret identity even though you readers will get to know regardless. Remember, vote as if you were Batman mulling over the decision himself.

Option 1 seems like the best chance to end this without loss of life.

Great concept, anyway! Smiley

Option 2: Wayne might not be able to be reasoned with, but that option must be tried first.

I voted for option 1, though I think option 3 is better than option 2.

Good thing this Batman is alright with killing in self-defense and to defend those about to be harmed that cannot fight back. (He still usually avoids guns because they make killing by accident way too likely. Still, he has no personal or political hangups about firearms.)

If no option wins a majority, you should have a runoff between the top two.

That will make it take longer, but alright.  No harm in that, I suppose. There will be a runoff between the top two choices.

And so it looks like Option One and Three will head to the runoff. I will post it tomorrow most likely, as I am feeling ill. However, if I get to feeling better, I will post it tonight.
