Imagine if this law required pregnant women who didn't want an abortion to "consult" the father who disagrees.

Let's face it - this isn't about giving men equal consideration in the parenting equation.  If it were, Oklahoma would be requiring workplaces to offer paid paternity leave and remedy the disparity between hours worked among men and women so that fathers were able to spend more time actually parenting their children.

But this isn't really about that.  Oklahoma doesn't even have paid maternity leave.

This is not at all the way to go about fighting abortion.

Yeah, the GOP does a terrible job of fighting for the right-to-life.

-Why not? It sounds like the natural corollary of mandatory child support payments.

Because it plays right into the hands of the people claiming that opposing to abortion is sexist.

This is a good thing in theory, the father contributes just as much genetically to a child as the mother, but is unworkable in practice.

Because it requires women to ask men's permission.

If pro-life Republicans actually cared about the born as much as they claim to care about the unborn, I might actually have some respect for them.

How about this: I will become pro-life the day Republicans pass the Equal Rights Amendment. It will never happen.

This. A woman can just lie and not tell the guy she's pregnant and have the abortion

Not if she literally needs a permission slip.

This is why we need to get rid of Roe vs. Wade, so we can severely restrict abortion in a direct manner, rather than through all this backdoor stuff.

So you believe that abortion is murder?  If so, there is no excuse for wanting to keep it legal.

Luckily almost 70% of Americans disagree.

Yet America voted for Trump, who made it very clear that Roe would be gone under him. I trust abortion polls about as far as I can throw them.

Trump didn't even get a plurality, and even then, that would imply that wanting to ban abortion would be a deal breaker for all of them?

Ignoring polls because they contradict your views and desires for policy is probably not the smartest thing to do.

Most people think overturning Roe v. Wade = banning abortion. People are stupid.

I mean, there's no way that you didn't know that Hillary won the popular vote by 3,000,000 votes, and there's no way it just slipped your mind.

It might. It wouldn't necessarily, but it would be up to the justices. Hypothetically, they could find that fetuses are persons and abortion is banned under anti-murder statues. Lots of Republicans would like to see that.

Obviously, turning it back to the states is more likely, but it's not obvious for "people are stupid" snark.

The nationwide popular vote means about as much to me as a speck of dust on the ground. Both are useless.

That's fine, but you know that "America voted for Trump" is an objectively false statement. Why would anyone ever try to be wrong on purpose?

Lol, no.

Then you would never be pro-life, even if Republicans did pass the ERA.
