Should the Democrats just accept the inevitable reality that Donald Trump will win re election and just not run a candidate in 2020 to save themselves the humiliation. Their only electable candidate last year that had any chance of winning at all was Hillary Clinton and she couldn't even win so should the just concede 2020 already just to save themselves the humilation

No, clearly the Democrats should just give up permanently and spread their cheeks nice and wide for the Republicans. The new red wall (Trump states minus Michigan) is impregnable, since WI/PA are permanent dark red states now, and AZ/GA/NC will never trend Democratic.

Accept a second Trump term?  I have lots of trouble accepting even one term!

That said, I would definitely not be surprised if it turns out badly for Dems.  The leadership really hasn't been acting like it has any interest in getting back into power.

I know people are gonna groan, but if I go by the original question in the topic. No, run Tulsi Gabbard at the top of the ticket and balance it out with a solid VP Pick. Gabbard has crossover appeal to snag GOP voters. At the end of the day, the Democrats have to run against him in 2020. His foreign policy is horrendous and he's the person who represents us as a country to everyone else's world leader. It's embarrassing, Trump is a clown with a clowncar.

If Tom Perez is chosen as DNC chair, we might as well accept it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

As Yoda would have said : « At an end, your rule is. And not short enough it was. »

I'm waiting for the day Trump is defeated to use this quote.

Even against an incumbent President so seemingly successful as Nixon in 1972 (few knew that Spiro Agnew was a crook and mass recognition of wrongdoing related to Watergate would cause Nixon to implode politically) or someone as successful as Reagan in 1984 did the Democrats offer no alternative. McGovern was easy to carve up, and Mondale was basically awarded the nomination as an honor for long and meritorious service to the Democratic Party.

President Trump will have to change the political culture as Reagan did to get re-elected in a free and fair election. I have severe doubt about America having a free and fair election should the President and his advisors succeed in selecting the electorate and interfering in the opposition party as is the norm in China or Russia.

This post is worse than the OP. You can't think of a better candidate to snag GOP voters than some non Christian with fascist ties, the same foreign policy as Trump whose own foreign policy you then condemn and of who the only Democrat who is saying good things about is...Dennis Kucinich?

And Florida is now so red that it should be coloured black on the map. In fact, the human eye can't even comprehend how red it is- you're going to need a mantis shrimp's eyes for that.

Yes. Also, the Democrats should dissolve and join the Republicans. But before they do, they should introduce a constitutional amendment which would make Trump President-for-life.

Weren't the Republicans in this same boat back in the summer of 2009?

Look at them now.

It'll be fine.

I think Democrats should accept the inevitable reality that running to the center does not equal being more electable.

in our current political environment i'd argue it makes you less electable. Hillary's biggest mistake this election was essentially drawing blood from a stone by trying to win over the votes of "moderate" Republicans who mostly ended up voting for Trump anyway.

His approval rating is 39%.

It's not even been one month.

We should NOT just accept he'll win a second term.

No, because Kasich or Rubio would be a shoe in for reelection.  Trump got lucky and got in.

He already lost one election, but won on a technicality.

At the rate he's going, 2020 won't be as friendly to him.
