Great news!

If the liberals are so upset, they can cut a deal.

Picture this:

Your parents crossed the border illegally with you, their 5 year old son, in order to make a better life in America. They both found jobs and worked hard to support themselves and their beautiful son. They enrolled you in a public elementary school and you went through the entire American public education system, got a job, and worked hard to put yourself through your local community college. You made many friends along the way, lived most your life in America, and met the love of your life. You're now about to settle down with your high school sweetheart.

There's a knock at your door.

GREAT NEWS! ICE puts you in handcuffs and ships you off to some detainment facility. They're planning on deporting you back to Mexico. A country that's completely foreign to you.

With teachers unions artificially boosting the price of our extremely expensive government education industry complex, that person is walking out with $150k or so in his head.
And now you'll ensure they never "pay it back" because they'll be taking their skills to Mexico.  Everyone loses here.

But you know that, and you like it.  Because you're a piece of sh**t.

Yawn. It wasn't my idea to give illegals access to the government education industry complex.

The real reason your failing political party wants to keep the illegals around is so that you can grant them amnesty, have them vote for your candidates, and then maybe you can win elections for a change.

If you really want to stop the illegal invaders like this one, you could build the wall plus have ICE  deportation squads nip the 'problem' in the bud rather than let it linger for (from this fact pattern) 13+ years. Obviously that doesn't align with your political goals. Sad!

Yawn. Ignorant white supremacists like you (seriously, it's well known Krazen is in a couple white power groups) are merely kermitting over President pussygrabber going down in flames.

Now it's teachers to bash. The f#$ktards on this thread are growing.

Teachers are actually some of the most underpaid people in this country you dumba**

Complete madness.

The government education industry complex has grown like a virus. Government education industry complex staffing is almost quadruple what it was during the Kennedy Administration.

They are stealing billions of dollars!

That's not true.  A lot of schools are actually understaffed with most of the personnel working part-time.  I will agree that some school principles make a s***-load of money (in most states the person with the highest income is a university president), but for most teachers, the income they make is barely enough to get by.

The median income of a US high school teacher is $57,200 a year. Again, that's actually $57,000 for 10 months but even if it was for a full year, that's still a lot of money. If you are "barely getting by" on $57,000 a year, you are literally mentally disabled and should not be in charge of teaching children.

That's probably the salary of full-time teachers.  Part-timers or subs don't make anywhere near that much.  Plus, high school teachers are not the only teachers that exist.  I can understand why a Trump supporter would hate teachers (they love the uneducated), but why does a red avatar hate teachers so much?

Median salary of an elementary school teacher is 55 and the median salary of a middle school teacher is 56.

Yes, I'm talking about full time. Why would you except someone who works part time to make the same as someone who works full time?

What are you proposing? That part time teachers should be paid for time they don't work? Or they should be paid double because they work less?

Teachers are well paid. Especially compared to other Western countries.

Don't take the word of teacher's unions that teachers are on the brink of poverty. They are not objective. It is literally the job of a union to always insist on getting raise for their members regardless of performance, merit, or market value.

^This.

The teacher's unions have gaslighted the public for years on this issue.

Teachers make twice the median national income. They do this working 2 months less than every other profession.

Hardly.  Unlike most other professions, their professional development and recertification gets concentrated into a simultaneous period.

Ehh.. This is not true. Many new teachers make lower wages, but it is still usually an entry level salary on par with others entry level salaries. Full time teachers tend to make a pretty good wage, one often much higher than the median income for their state

Lol, maybe in California, but in most states schools are quite underfunded. The teachers here in AZ aren't paid nearly enough(esp for a job that requires 6+ years of college), and our schools are horrifically underfunded.

Remember when all the Atlas Democrats started sneering at us that he'd break all of his promises after the election? They've been wrong once again. The more they predict bad things for us, the better things become.

He will. You can't just rescind something overnight. I've always wondered why Republicans voted 56 times for Obama to veto their own repeal bill. The worst thing that has happened to the Republican base is their impatience. Thanks to Obama's inclination for the pen and the phone along with Nancy Pelosi's hard-charging leadership style as Speaker, Obama got a lot of stuff done in a short amount of time.

Trump's plans needs to last. He can't repeal DACA by executive order only for the next Democrat President to reinstate it as easily as he destroyed it. This needs to be done through legislation and enshrined in the law.

Well he promised to drain the swamp and instead appointed every oligarch and crony in the nation. He also at own time promised not to cut entitlements which is pretty funny seeing as he has appointed standard far right drones like Price to run them.

But yes, he will follow through with all his moronic pledges that won't help any working class American but instead will coddle your precious feelings.

I don't live in California, and actually when you consider they work around 9 months a year, they actually do make more.

As for AZ... No teachers aren't hurting there either...

But in concrete terms, how is Trump delivering, beyond the executive orders? A lot of this is Obama in reverse, where he uses a lot of executive authority that is obviously written on sand. My critique of this president is that he's acting a lot like Obama, minus the mandate, and is carving out a legacy that will be reversed, a lot more than Obama's legacy will be reversed.

We're 30 days in and it's way too early to tell, sure, but I am just wondering the direction here ...

The 9 month myth is one that those who think teaching is easy and natural love to bring out. The summer "vacation" is when those in the teaching profession mostly take care of the professional development and recertification that those in other professions don't all do during the same time of the year. Do doctors only work when in the examination room? Do lawyers work only when in the courtroom? Do teachers work only in the classroom? The answer to all three is no.

Even if they work 12 months a year, they still make more than most people who work 12 months a year.

Not when compared to other professionals with similar education requirements. Compare oranges to oranges, not durians.

Even if you include summer vacation for professional development, they do not take professional development classes all summer long, they receive spring break, a long winter break, as well as federal holidays that many people do not get.

I'll grant that DACA is a bandage, but even if we fix the system to make it less likely there will be future Dreamers, that doesn't really affect what we should do with people who grew up here in the US and are acculturated as Americans.

I'm sure we will have future Dreamers since you can't catch 100% of the people crossing the border but people overstaying their visas should have never happened. In my opinion Bill Clinton or George W. Bush should have started e-verify when the US added 8 million illegal immigrants during the 1995-2007 time period. Illegal Immigration was not Obama's fault but the 2 presidents that preceded him fault.

I di agree though kids of illegal immigrant parents we should find a way to grant them a path to citizenship.
