People were able to look at that and say "Well, Hillary is still worse"

It might be harder to look the other way when there's no one to compare Trump against.

This is a solid point. A LOT of people who don't like Trump held their nose and voted for him, or didn't vote at all, or voted 3rd party, because they hated the alternative more. I know tons of people like this, and many are staunch conservatives.

Needless to say he isn't growing on them.
