I was thinking of this earlier and curious to get people's opinion. Who people vote for if Donald Trump and Mike Pence had to face Al Franken and Keith Ellison in the general election for 2020?

Easily the Democrats because Trump is horrible and Franken is a massive FF.
This wouldn't make sense though since they're both from Minnesotta.

Parrotguy is right about there being a problem of having a Presidential/Vice-Presidential ticket with both nominees from the same state. Constitutionally, the Minnesota Electors cannot vote for both Franken and Ellison. Hypothetically, all of the other states could vote for a Franken/Ellison ticket, and thus it may still be possible to win the Electoral College even if the ten Electors voted just for Franken, and cast their ballots for VPOTUS for someone else who doesn't live in Minnesota. But it would be easier and simpler to elect Franken if the Democrats nominate a Vice-Presidential candidate who lives in a different state.

Franken/Ellison 100%. Maybe two of my favorite politicians right now.

RIP them if they get 270-279 EVs (with MN, that is). FF

Franken could get 5 and Ellison could get 5 if they get at least 275 electoral votes counting all 10 from Minnesota.

Franken/Ellison would never happen. It could cost them MN's electoral votes, at least, in addition to being stupid.

Isn't it against the law for two candidates to be from the same state? Or is it just strongly frowned upon.

I'd vote for a ham sandwich against Donald Trump, so I guess these people, although in a normal election I wouldn't.

How would Ellison being a Muslim play in a national election?

If Boyntan Brown or Ellison becomes DNC chair, the Dems are finished in 2018 and Machin will probably head for the door and become an Independent-Republican. Now, it's very likely Ben Sasse challenges President Trump in 2020, but probably loses 98%-2% or more. The Democratic primaries could be very close between Warren & Franken, especially if Sherrod Brown, Kam Harris, Tulsi Gabbard, Cory Booker, and their ilk drop out early enough.

You think about all these factors, and depending on how Trump performs in the next 4 years (and perceptions of his presidency will be extremely diverse, I think the election would go solidly for the President and not Sen. Franken.

Two from the same state? One would have to change residency and abandon either the Senate or the House.

Even one of these Minnesotans with Ashley Judd would be stronger than both together.

Anti-Semite on the ticket = one of the few scenarios where I vote for Trump.
