The 2020 election could put the two biggest names in the Democratic Party on a collision course.

Democratic bigwigs are already rumbling about a Kennedy vs. Clinton showdown, should Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand set her sights on the White House in 2020. Both contenders would be former First Daughters: Chelsea Clinton and Caroline Kennedy.

“What you’re witnessing is the beginning of Chelsea Clinton’s political career,” says a source who has a longstanding relationship with both the Clinton and Kennedy families.

“Chelsea had that Twitter war with Kellyanne Conway — she’s engaging in the political arena,” says our insider.

Last week, Clinton, 36, took on Trump spokeswoman Conway for drumming up fear by talking about terror attacks that never happened. Conway fired back with the fact that Trump is now President and Chelsea’s mom is not.

Hopefully the Democrats have learned this by now!

Hopefully this is just some fake news from the NY Daily News. That senate seat wouldn't be up that year, so it doesn't even make sense. New York would only have a Senate election in 2020 if someone left office before the election.

Depending on when and if Gillibrand were to resign her Senate seat, there could be a special election that year to fill the seat.

Not looking good for Chelsea the Kennedy's always been immune to dynasty fatigue just look at IL Governor race now its basically over. Still if Blumenthal and Markey were to retire and Gillibrand resigns there is a possibility that 4 Kennedys could hold state wide office at the same time in 2023.

What on Earth ha Chelsea Clinton ever done that indicates she has the chops for a Senate seat? There's no reason but nepotism to think she'd get the nomination.

Not that we haven't had other celebrities run, but her resume is even thinner than those of figures like Al Franken and Trump. (Franken has proved reasonably good, but that's no reason to give her  a pass.)

This is the LAST thing the Democratic party needs, and everything Trump accuses it of being.

Yeah. But I still doubt that Gillibrand wants to run for president or vice president.

Well, the last 2 Democratic Senators from Idaho were pretty damn liberal.

And Bernie himself was first elected to the U.S. House when Vermont was still a swing state.

OK guys, the prediction is still quite inane. Carl Paladino already ran for statewide office in New York, he had a terrible opponent far worse than any Clinton and it was a wave year. And he still got crushed.

New York has never voted against a Clinton, and it sure isn't going to start with Carl Paladino. As for Chelsea, the only complaint I've seen from people is "her parents!" Caroline Kennedy, who wanted a Senate seat to be handed to her without any campaigning and a Palin-like ignorance of the issues, acted like an entitled twat in 2009. I'm confident Chelsea will follow her mom's footsteps in terms of hard work, intelligence, and constituent service.

I'd like Chelsea to actually gain some experience before going for the Senate. It'll just look like handing over family jewels and Democratic Party doesn't need that again.

Funny how the usual suspects are attacking Chelsea but giving Caroline Kennedy a free pass for doing the same thing. #agenda

Caroline as done a little more, but isn't particularly qualified for the seat either.

Why would she leave her seat before the election?  Bob Dole did in '96, but he was already retirement age.  Kerry, McCain, Obama (or VP nominees Lieberman, Edwards, Biden, Kaine...)....none of them resigned before the general election.  They all stayed in office until election day, to see if they would actually be elected president.  In Obama's case he was elected, and then resigned and had his seat filled by appointment.  Presumably, Gillibrand would do the same.  She'd only leave her Senate seat if she's elected president or vice president (or picked for the Cabinet), at which time Cuomo (or whoever is governor at that point) would appoint her replacement, right?
