72% now see trade as an "opportunity", up sharply.

1) GOOD

2) Hilarious to see how the partisan responses have changed based on which party is in power/pushing for the free trade deals, haha.

I'm surprised.

With the election of Trump, I assumed it would take an opposite turn with more people seeing trade as a threat.

However, this result probably has to with the way Gallup framed the question. I believe most Americans see trade as a good thing, but if you were to poll their opinion on free-trade agreements you might get a less favorable result.

Trump is not a protectionist. He is an economic nationalist. He is a huge supporter of free trade with countries like the UK and others that share interests and values with the US. It's about time we stopped pretending that every country can or even should get along and be friends.

In that case, Trump should have been for the TPP, since we share values and interests with Japan and Australia. No, he is a protectionist.

Once again, the difference between finance and economics is plainly visible.

He believes in bilateral agreements with friendly countries on an individual basis without having to get involved with hostile countries like Vietnam.

Yeah, finance is an actual thing.

Friendly as in Russia and hostile as in Mexico and Canada?

This is true of issue polling on basically all of Trump's positions.  Support for Obamacare, Syrian refugees, the concept of diversity, etc. have all been up since Trump's election.

I'm also surprised. I would've thought that because of the entire 2016 election (Bernie and Trump) and Trump's actual election (as Confused Democrat mentioned) that support for trade probably would've gone down. Maybe this issue is just pretty prominent in the Midwestern states (MI, WI, PA, MN, IA, and OH).

It actually makes sense why Obamacare might go up btw (loss of jobs; "looking back at it, it probably wasn't so bad.", etc.)
