NOTE: I'm going to have to push this through the Chamber quite quickly, as OneJ_ may be leaving for the House in the next few days.

I'm for the labeling of ingredients, pesticides, and nutrition facts (the things that have a scientific consensuses for their possible harmfulness), but i'm not too sure about GMOs. I think that if public wills it and puts in the necessary effort to not shop for GMO foods, the market will respond by not selling GMO foods.

Oppose. I don't think there is a public interest in requiring GMO labeling as it is currently unproved that they have negative health effects.

This is primarily to promote awareness so that people would know what they consume. I wasn't implying that any GMOs have any negative effects.

Requiring labels for GMO when they pose no health or dietary effects seems overkill. I agree that products should label their ingredients, when there is a rationale for them. Knowing salt content, etc is important for those with dietary restrictions.

The other problem is how do we define GMO? All plants are genetically modified.

I believe we should mandate this so that consumers know what they are eating and can make the choice on whether they believe in GMO's on their own. Let the free market take its course, I encourage the passage of this bill.

I now open the floor for a final vote for 38-hour vote.

Yes, yes, I know. I'm not currently Speaker, but at the time of my swearing in, this bill had expired and it's just going to sit here, so...

With 1 AYE, 3 NAYs, and 1 member not voting, this bill has failed.

I'll confirm Dip's statement that the bill has failed, as I am currently Speaker of the South.
