Currently there are two terminals. One is named after Lindbergh, the other after Hubert Humphrey.

I really dislike having a terminal named after that fascist in our airport and it bothers me every time I'm there. I favor renaming it the Barack Obama Terminal. Or if it has to be a Minnesotan, then the Paul Wellstone Terminal.

And yet the airlines say it is one of the best run airports in the world.

Naming an airline terminal after Paul Wellstone is a little morbid. But yeah Lindbergh was a Nazi sympathizer.

Yes, rename it. Maybe wait until Mondale has passed away and name it after him.

I can assure you that one of the worst Governors in the state history will not ever have anything major named after him.

My opinion of him is actually, uh, pretty mixed. You rarely hear today about how he was one of the most mob-connected Governors in the country: http://www.citypages.com/news/the-forgotten-crime-boss-kid-cann-the-original-teflon-don-reigned-over-minneapolis-6570344

This. Also, I cannot think of anyone who is a more appropriate namesake for a terminal, other than possibly Earhart and the Wright Brothers.

Houston has an airport named after someone who died in a plane crash (William P. Hobby) and a terminal at another airport named after someone who died in a plane crash (Mickey Leland).

Well he did contribute greatly to the Japanese front during ww2, so perhaps they are choosing to celebrate his earlier achievements and heroism during the war, while ignoring the prewar years.Tongue

This thread is a nice exhibit as to why naming stuff after people is a mistake. But yes, I have a low opinion of Lindbergh.

Oklahoma City's airport is named after Will Rogers so I don't see the problem with Wellstone.

There's not really a major difference between Charles Lindbergh and David Duke, so I suppose you can argue it should be renamed. However, it was obviously not named after him to honor his politics.

It's complicated. After his solo flight across the Atlantic he was a great hero in Germany, which had its own appreciation for air aces. (Too much -- in view of the future role of Hermann Goering). Germany still admired him after Hitler took over. He still got wined, dined, and lauded -- so he was blind to what was going on in Germany.

There doesn't seem to be a connection between Lindbergh and Minneapolis, so I wouldn't be opposed per second, but it would depend on who you name it after.  As long as it ain't yet another dead politician, that'd be fine, but renaming it for Mondale or Wellstone is a non-starter in my opinion. Renaming it after Keillor once he passes on would be a fitting tribute.
