Since all the leadership posts in this are vacant, I am assuming control as both Representative-Elect and Federalist Party Chairman of the position of Federalist House Conference Chair on an interim basis.

Majority Conference Positions:
Declarations:
Speaker: NC Yankee
Majority Leader:
Majority Whip:
Conference Chair:
Policy Chair:

Due note, the Speaker has to be elected by the whole House upon its swearing in, through the process designated in the rules of the House, pending amendment.

First off Members of the House Conference for the 5th Congress, please sign-in (If newly elected, you cannot vote on legislation or introduce bills until you swear in on March 3rd, this is only for Conference purposes):

Speaker of course has to administer the House, put bills on the floor and run the votes and such.
Majority leader is basically the floor leader for the Party Conference. I suppose he could introduce bills and such that the conference supports or for the administration.
Majority Whip, is suppose to scour for votes on such legislation
Conference chair has duties established in the soon to be amended Federalist Bylaws, including administering leadership elections for the Conference.
And Policy Chair I guess can develop legislation for the conference to pursue.

We have plenty of time to get this sorted out. That is why I started it early.

I figure we can take about 48 hours to vote on these positions. So I guess maybe a final deadline for declarations will be February 27th (Take that Peebs Tongue).

That is up to you.

I was considering possibly taking the Question Time idea I had and turn it into something more exciting with maybe with say it is you as Majority Leader and Peebs duking it out. May-Corbyn style.

As for policy chair, yes that would important as well. The main priorities are Healthcare (if you have not received a PM on this from me, you will soon), the budget and the Foreign Policy Review.

On top of that there are other areas we need to pursue as well. We should seek to provide some help to small business, we should continue with the investments in infrastructure and technology and also pursue other means by which to boost the economy since the unemployment rate is rather high.

We should also note that in vein suggested by myself and Vice President Goldwater of pursuing policies to level the playing field for the small business and the entrepreneur. While I realize this is a rather pro-market crowd I am speaking too, I would note that left to its own devices the free market sometimes produces monopolies and these usually are detrimental to job growth. Over 2/3rds of small businesses fail and those small businesses and new startups provide for 75% of the new job creation. Imagine the impact on jobs and the economy if we could reduce that 2/3rds, which stems largely from high start up costs making competing with existing firms impossible. At the same time, existing firms trend toward reduced jobs because once they peak in terms of market share, it is typically a downward trajectory employment wise once controlling costs becomes the priority. So I would note that as the party of Market Competition, the Federalists must be concerned not just with minimizing the impact of gov't on small business and job growth, but also the same with regards to the impact of established firms and private sector monopolies.

I know there is some desire to pursue action on protecting the unborn, but noting the overwhelming lean of the Senate on said issue, I would recommend finding a Senate Co-sponsor with a red avatar. I would note that pre-reset, the ban on late term abortions was actually sponsored and passed by a laborite, the now former Atlasian Marokai Blue (who was hardly conservative on any social issues including life), in a rather pro-choice leaning Senate (something like 8-2). As I said in my campaign there are multiple approaches to this issue and while bans of any kind probably are a tall order, there are other avenues that can be pursued to advance the cause of life.

I am sure there are other policy issues I missed, but bottom line is we need to be robust in the crafting of legislation. I would recommend reaching out to and finding co-sponsors in the Senate, that way Scott can hit the ground running with a sponsor already lined up instead of being like Jeb Bush once the House bill gets to the Senate floor saying "Please sponsor!" Sad. Also this will help ensure passage and minimize the bouncing back and forth, that happens, especially with the national right to life act, which ultimately died as a result.

I sent a message about getting the new noticeboard thread created. Once that is done, I will update all the threads (unless it is not done by tonight then I will update them without it until it is finally completed).

Anyway, the first thing to get some meaning to these positions would be to designate the Whips in both conferences with the task of getting the members out to vote on any given bill.

Now that we finally have set who will be our members in the next Congress, we can proceed with deciding who is doing what.

It appears that Truman and Peebs are wanting to combine the position of Leader and Whip. Something to consider.

We should really fill that whip position. I will give an extra 24 hours in the hopes that a declaration or nomination will be forthcoming.
