The data is from a 2013 survey conducted in 65 countries.  I guess Trump was on to something when he claimed we're not that innocent (one of the two things he has said that I agree with, the other one is that Rick Perry wears glasses to look smart).  Bill O'Reilly's head just exploded.

This was taken before Russia's aggressive moves in Syria and Ukraine though.

The answer is clearly “Russia.” That country didn't learn what we taught it in the Cold War, and its time to make the lesson stick this time.

Well yes that's true, but it still says a lot about how the rest of the world feels about the US.  And this was during the Obama years.

You can find the data for each individual country here:

http://www.wingia.com/en/services/end_of_year_survey_2013/country_results/7/37/

China:
USA 49%
Japan 30%
North Korea 6%

France:
Syria 14%
Iran 13%
North Korea 5%

Germany:
USA 17%
Iran 16%
Syria 14%

Japan:
China 38%
North Korea 22%
USA 7%

Russia:
USA 54%
China 6%
Iraq 5%
Syria 5%

UK:
Iran 15%
USA 15%
North Korea 12%

USA:
Iran 20%
Afghanistan 14%
North Korea 13%
USA 13%

Some fun crosstabs too.  E.g., in all of the Western countries I looked at, men were more likely than women to view Iran and North Korea as a threat to world peace, whereas women were more likely than men to name Afghanistan and Iraq.

In China, it was the least educated people who tended to view the US more as a threat, whereas in Western countries it’s the more educated people who are more likely to name the US.  Also, the age gap on the US is such that in both China and Russia, people over 65 are most likely to view the US as a threat, whereas it’s more young people who say that in Western countries.

In fact, in the US itself, in the 18-24 subsample, the results are:
USA 22%
Afghanistan 15%
North Korea 13%

So a plurality of young people in the US say that the US is the biggest threat to world peace.

Trumpie's inexperience and bad temper combined with Steve Bannon on the NSC makes America a strong contender right now. Russia ain't that bad either though.

I think they learned "help your opponent collapse from internal dysfunction" very well.

Are you implying that you think Trump will improve our reputation or that you expect him to fully embrace our current one?

IIRC he basically thinks America should scare other countries into doing what it wants.

All things considered, I'd probably go with Pakistan, given that they have the double-whammy of nukes and widespread extremist activity. If I had to pick which conflict is most likely to result in a nuclear exchange, I'd put a major terrorist attack in India by Pakistan-based forces ahead of anything involving North Korea or Iran. Not to mention the fact that they are already partially responsible for the proliferation of nuclear technology to North Korea, Iran, and Libya.

All of the US, China, and especially Russia can be major threats to regional safety, but always seem to let cooler heads prevail before things escalate toward all-out war between major power blocks, or nuclear conflict.

-Either is superior to the current state, where Americans don't even win from what America's government does abroad. Trump could improve the reputation of the U.S., though I have my doubts.

This, and I remember this map. 2013 is no longer relevant.

Not surprising at all. What's the number, 90% of drone strikes kill innocent civilians? Seems they have a right to feel terrorized by America.

Hahaha at the ungrateful Europeans  hating us. The fact is if we didnt defend them for free , Europe would be bankrupt with the exception of the EU. Oh ya without the US defending them during the cold war , they would be a colony of the Soviet Union. I now think all countries in NATO should have to spend 2% of their gdp on defense or we should not guarantee to protect them.

Lol at all the countries freeloading on the US military who think the US is the largest threat to world peace. Especially countries like Germany (which spend only 1.2% of GDP on defense compared to 3.3% of GDP in the US) really should be more grateful.

America saved Western Europe in WW2 by liberating it from the Germans in 1944 and 1945 then its presence saved it from falling to the Soviets during the Cold War and this is what thanks we get. So America saved Europe from being a fascist or communist dictatorship and this is the thanks we get.
