I love looking at the town halls in Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisiana. These are good and honest folks lashing out against politicians that  continue to ignore dire issues in rural communities. Its really about time that the forgotten folks of the South start realizing that the Republican Party is not on their side.
The Democratic Party is?

Depends. If what they consider their side is pro-2nd amendment positions, or pro-lgbt discrimination, or making sure the concerns of businesses are always favored over workers', then no, Democrats are not.

If their side consists of workers rights, healthcare reform that consists of more than a "die quicker" mentality and making sure corporations don't continue trashing this country, then yes, Democrats are on their side.

People packed the auditorium of a Pat Toomey town hall...without him in it!  Instead, they put up a literal empty suit in the front of the room:

https://twitter.com/StephanieRit/status/834429303978938368

Something similar happened over here with Darrell Issa. They had a Waldo cardboard cutout with his head on it:

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/sd-no-town-hall-20170220-story.html

Is it a no show at a town hall when it isn't the elected officials townhall?

Did Toomey's office set up the town hall? Cause I'm reading both Toomey & Issa's "town halls" were set up by protestor groups

Neither Toomey nor Issa set up those events. They were protests pretending to be town halls

My understanding though is that he will not host townhalls of his own. I get that it is unacceptable to just shout people down and not let them speak, but what is the point of even having district-level reps if they won't talk to people?

When one speaks only with lobbyists, right-wing think tanks, and big funders of one's campaigns, then who needs town halls?

That's what I assumed, hence why I posted the Issa link

Lol. I love it - and I'm probably much closer to generic Bernie candidate than Joe Manchin.

I really like how he shows up super late to the conference call and then badgers his constituents.

From the article it seems Manchin has a better understanding of why Sanders won the state over Clinton. Also he is a dick.

Honestly in most states town halls are a big waste of time. I'm sure he's having telephone town halls but really unless you have a small compact district there isn't a point to them

Interesting.  Democrats hosted another "empty chair" town hall this morning, this time protesting Dianne Feinstein:

https://twitter.com/Indivisible510/status/835915157637218304

It's the first time so far I've seen protestors attempting to pressure a centrist Democrat to heed their concerns.  This movement may be adopting the contours of the tea party, in the sense of trying to compel representatives to tow more closely to protestors' ideological agenda, by threatening to support primary challengers if they do not comply.

I saw a Facebook post that they were doing one of these for Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, but I think it kind of fell flat since they scheduled it to happen during the DNC vote, so nobody really blamed them for not being there.

Feinstein may be the worst of the Democrats if you take into account the political climate of the state they represent.  People talk about the likes of Joe Manchin and Heidi Heitkamp being too conservative and voting with the Republicans too much, but at least they have somewhat of an excuse, considering they represent two of the most conservative states in the country so even though they are more conservative than liberal, they are still more liberal than their average constituents.  Feinstein may not be as conservative as Manchin or Heitkamp, but of all the Democrats she is easily the furthest to the right if you compare her to her constituents.

Technically doesn't belong in this thread, since it's about a lack of town halls, but:

He's not wrong about the "townhalls" though.  They've been totally hijacked and are no longer productive.  Sad.

I have not seen much evidence to suggest that the people who attend the town halls are not real constituents of their representatives, and do not have real grievances about the direction Republicans want to take the country.  Just because those congressmen won their elections does not mean they should just ignore the minority that does not support them.  Rubio can afford to do so because his next election is in the distant future, 2022.  But that doesn't mean he is doing the right thing.

This is from a few weeks ago, but Sheldon Whitehouse got absolutely GRILLED by a CHORUS of protesters during a town hall for voting yes on a decent amount of Trump cabinet appointees.

It's ing brilliant watching it.
