I wonder if anyone will have the audacity to tell him "You Lie!" when he does.

When is the official state of the union address??

Next year.  New presidents don't have official SOTUs in their first year, but they usually call a joint session anyway.

But of course next year we could have a totally new president, so who knows?

I wonder if anyone will have the audacity to tell him "You Lie!" when he does.

Or if anyone will boycott it.

It used to be the case that outgoing presidents would give a final State of the Union message. Ford was the last to do so by a speech and Carter gave a written departing message. Ford's final SotU is also the first I recall watching.

That is not consistent in history. JFK gave a State of Union Address in 1961 shortly after being sworn in. LBJ gave his final one in 1969, days before leaving office, as did Ford in 1977. After that, newly inaugurated presidents waited till the next year, but gave a speech during a special session of congress, while the outgoing chief executive did not speak to congress anymore.

I really do hope he leaves most of the speech to his speech writers.  His penchant for off the cuff remarks won't play well anywhere.

You'd rather he read a prepared speech off a teleprompter?

I guess he has to work hard to find new ways to torture his cultists for his own twisted pleasure.

Or maybe he's just a deranged and idiotic crook. Hard to say for sure.

I never said teleprompter, I was discussing composing the speech, not delivering it.

In the lead up to his run, he re-tweeted a quote that said, "You would be the most straightforward Prez weve ever had. I dont see you reading prepared speeches off a teleprompter""

Just another lie from Trumplethinskin.

Well, that's out of the blue. It makes sense for Dems to try to get WWC voters, but the only person they can get is someone who's been out of office since 2016?

Memorizing a speech that long would be a monumental task, especially if he can't speak off the cuff.

Yeah, Democrats really need someone better to adequately respond to all of President Bob McDonnell's points.

Didn't he give his inaugural off of papers in front of him?

Yeah, he'd also be a pretty good voice for defending Obamacare.

I like the idea of having a Democrat from a red state give the response, but Beshear is retired.  I am not sure how much this could help the Democratic party in 2018.

Do you really think voters in almost 2 years from now will base their decisions over the choice of the Democratic response to this speech?

I think he's a good choice. Because what anyone who bothers to watch will see, if Beshear is any good at all, is a bitingly sharp contrast between a dictatorial man-baby with the IQ a deranged varmit and an actual old while male politician.

Having another older white male respond to the Menace from Mar-a-Lago will  highlight his gross unfitness for the office in a way no one else could.
