Opinions?

I might elaborate my thoughts later. But since it's relatively powerless and more like a heritage club, very decentralized, and because people will probably emphasize the "British" in the British Commonwealth... people will probably be pretty neutral on it, I do not see it as a politically-charged issue.

Insecure power-hungry narcissist like the idea of royalty.

/yawn

On the other hand, I believe there's a term of long-standing that's been used for people advocating similar ideas, "persons inimical to the liberties of America". Which would seem to describe the so-called president rather well.

I'm a big supporter of globalism and multinational organizations, so yeah, definitely.

Good thing we already have a flag to adopt in case we return to our original allegiance:

God can you imagine how many fat white guys dressed as Paul Revere would descend on Washington if Obama proposed this?

Yeah for real. I have a British mother and I don't see the point.

Seems fine to me. Would be a nice symbolic gesture, and I’m a bit of an Anglophile myself so it would be kinda cool. I would presume this means we would start sending athletes to the Commonwealth games?

There's pluses and minuses to it. It seems asinine and probably has some dark, if not racist, motive.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

This is the kind of thing a 13-year-old who just learned about the existence of the Commonwealth would propose. I don't oppose joining the Commonwealth, but it accomplishes literally nothing because the Commonwealth is totally irrelevant and powerless (and the US might not even be welcomed). That said, reading the article, it's not a Trump administration proposal, just some random Brits.

You people do realize this just means the US would send some people to meet with other Commonwealth leaders every two years, right? It's basically a symbolic move.

The Commonwealth seems to be just a general group of English-speaking nations, so I'd be fine with associate membership.

The Brits probably wanted this to happen for some years now, but thought an "anglophobe" like Obama (i.e. someone who first-hand understands the sh*t the Brits made Africans up with) was never gonna go for it.

Does this mean the Governor-General can fire Trump and replace him with Bernie?

This is coming from a "Better Together" crown-supporting Anglophile: this is a dumb idea.
