If bernie didnt run and Sherrod Brown decided to run for president , what do you think the primary map would look like. To me it would be very similar to Bernie vs Hillary except Brown would have gotten momentum earlier and made the primary from lean Hillary to tossup .

California would decide who has more pledged delegates and Hillary wins it by 2. Due to this nomination being very close , Hillary has to select a Midwestern Dem as her vp.

Brown would've possibly won IL and MA in this scenario.

I definitely agree about MA, though I'm not as sure about IL. I also think Clinton would've probably won TN.

I'm not sure about Clinton still winning TN. The Black vote isn't nearly as strong there as it is in the Deep South.

Would Brown do better amongst African-Americans than Sanders?

Bernie almost beat Clinton in MA.  I think Brown would have done a bit worse.  He's not as liberal as Sanders, and he would have not benefited from a regional advantage like Sanders did.

I think Hillary would have done better in the West in this scenario, probably winning WA and OR, and making CO and MT closer than IRL.

This, plus/minus TN and IL, and maybe CA if Brown were to win the nomination. If HRC wins, she chooses Brown as her running mate for a unity ticket

Had Sherrod Brown run the same campaign as Bernie, sans the "democratic socialist" label, he may have upset Hillary.  I firmly believe that there were a number of folks who voted for Hillary solely because Bernie wasn't (and isn't) really a Democrat.  That wouldn't have been a problem with Brown.  That being said, Bernie was/is Bernie, and he has a distinct persona that made him attractive.  He reached a folk hero status to his followers that I can't see Sherrod Brown achieving.

Brown would have done significantly worse because he is less charismatic and less of a bold contrast.

He would have been a mildly successful avatar for moveon.org/draft warren types to latch on to.

It's different here for a number of reasons.

1. Brown would presumably do better than Bernie
2. Brown's campaign wouldn't be run by Jeff Weaver, the hack crybaby that he is, and there wouldn't be nearly as much bad blood between the two campaigns.
3. Brown is a Senator from Ohio, makes him an attractive veep prospect from the get-go.
