Woodrow Wilson seems as a logical bet.

John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan, and Franklin Pierce all say hi.

Nah, Woodrow Wilson has long been the traditional answer on here (and indeed across much of the political internet). Those you mention are probably regarded as lesser presidents than him, but Wilson has always received the greatest amount of open hate. It helps that he generally ranks quite highly in historians' presidential rankings while those others are consistently near the bottom, hence it's much more fun to bash him.

Reagan always had some staunch fans here. I can't think of any unironic Wilson fan.

People like Wilson, and maybe Jackson get a lot of the pseudo-intellectual hate on here, but I bet if you went on pure emotion, it's probably George W. Bush.

Oh wait, there was WalterMitty, proclaiming himself as a "Wilsonian progressive" in addition to worshiping Michael Bloomberg and Dick Cheney. Good old times.

I'd say relative to an average listing, atlas lists Regan Wilson, Clinton and Adams low.  The real Atlas weirdness comes in who we give relatively highs scores to (one is obvious).

Maybe LBJ has a lower than expected score, given the centre-left leanings of the membership as a whole and the fact that LBJ seems to be partially rehabilitated nowadays amongst "progs" (but apparantly not in the minds of atlas lefties).

The deal with Wilson is that his every decent act had to be accompanied by something awful. Yes, he appointed Brandeis, but he also appointed this fellow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Clark_McReynolds

If Atlas actually voted on this, it would almost certainly be Trump, given the forum political demographics.

I like them both Tongue

(While he was personally really awful in a lot ways, including to Brandeis, I appreciate his legal contributions.)

The interesting thing, though, is to calculate who is disliked relative to a generic group of the same demographics.

Do we count the President or not? He is probably the most widely loathed person I can think of on Atlas period.

Only because W is off being a good citizen now.  He could be playing golf and living the high life but he's chosen a more noble path.......and he's still hated here.

But The Donald no doubt takes the cake.

Atlas pretty much always hates someone who is "widely" considered to be good/not all that bad but also has one or two things that the nerds on Atlas feel the dumb historians overlook. Smiley

Prime examples are Wilson's racism and LBJ's Vietnam actions (but not his racism, LOL).

I think LBJ would be ranked top 10 by historians if it weren't for Vietnam. Nobody cares about his racism.

I think resegregating the federal government and screening "Birth of a Nation" in the White House are a bit more materially bad than calling Johnson a cynical manipulator.
