What the heck is happening in this test match, both teams are batting so badly(india clearly worse) its  a joke. I mean neither team will likely score 300 runs in either of their innings which is laughable.

India vs Australia used to have the best batsman in the world face each other: Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman , Sehwag , Ganguly for India and Pointing,Gilchrist, Hayden ,Clarke, Martyn, Langer for Australia .

Both their teams from the mid  2000s would crush today's version of their teams.

The best era in Indian cricket was certainly the era starting when Tiger Pataudi became captain, through legends like Bishan Bedi, Chandra, Vishy, Sunny, Jimmy, all the way to a young Kapil Dev and the 1983 World Cup victory defending 183 in 60 overs vs the great team of all-time. No team assembled in Indian cricket since has approached the courage and tamasha of those teams, although there have been some very charming individual performances by the likes of Viru.

I don't know anyone except the most deranged India supporter with no respect for history who reminisces about the "good old days" of India/Australia cricket 10 years ago. Australians think about the great Ashes series of that era, and true Indian cricket fans think back to the fiery encounters with Pakistan in the 90s and being terrorized (for lack of a better word) by the two Ws and Shoaib Akhtar. Virat's India is far better and more entertaining - they take risks, they behave like Australians (not necessarily a good thing, but it is entertaining), and they're a more complete team despite still not having filled Zaheer Khan's shoes.

Other then 2005 what ashes series was good in Australia's run of dominance from 1999-2008. Every other
Ashes series was 4-1 Australia or 5-0 Australia.

every India vs Australia series at the time other then 1999-2000 ended 2-1 or 1-1

Some great India vs Australia series of the time were

Australia vs India 2001( the game where India won despite following on )

Australia vs India 2003/04 (tied series )

India vs Australia 2007-08( another great series )

O'Keefe had better match figures than Shane Warnes best fogures.

And Steve Smith's current form has him on track to surpass Ricky Ponting as Australia's 2nd best batdman of all time.

Smith's only played 51 tests and is nearly at 5,000 runs averaging 60 runs per innings. Chappell played 87 tests for 7,110 runs at an average of 53. Trumper scored 3,163 at an average of 39. Smith's aleady passed him. Not to mention he's only 27, and 28-33 are usually a batsman's glory years. I think he has at least 8 mor years left in him, possibly 10. He'll easily go past Chappell in that time, and I will be very surprised if he fails to pass Ponting.

Micheal Clarke in 2012 was also amazing: 4 200s in a calendar year, including 329 where he would have broken 400 if he didnt declare.

Also Adam Gilchrist was great as well

To compare a modern batsman to Victor Trumper (or any player from the Golden Age) on batting averages is deeply flawed...

Steve Smith is certainly a great player, but he's not a great player just because of the number of runs he's scored or his batting average.

I have watched Steve Smith and George Bailey chase down 310 at the WACA a couple of years ago.

There is something different about Steve Smith. The ball comes off his bat so much faster than any other batsman.

The Indian fans from Perth loved watching Virhat Kohli and Rohit Sharma put on about 200.

But during the subsequent chase by Australia, at about the 250 run mark, nearly 90% of the Indian fans had gone home.

Ricky Ponting says Steve Smith will end up #2 in the all time Australian batting ranking.

why is Micheal Clarke so hated and considered a bad captain by Australian  fans. In my opinion he was a great captian and clearly a better captain  then pointing. Pointing left the Autralian team in shambles with an embarrassing ashes defeat at home, and 5th ranked team. Clarke took that team to become the number one ranked team in the world, and took them from a quarter final exit to world cup champs.

I've always considered Nathan Lyon to be very likable for an Aussie cricketer and somewhat underrated, but taking 8/50 in the first innings of a Test bowling offspin?! Insanity.

Clarke had a fight with Simon Katich which showed Clarke to be a fairly underwhelming character.

Great batsman though, but fairly money hungry and a little bit of a spoilt brat in the media.

8 for shows that he is world class. He has worked very hard and luckily he has come up Trumps again (excuse the pun). Otherwise Zampa is straight in the door.

Lyon reminds me of Graham Swan from England. A really crucial element when the quicks are not working.

Once we het Pujara out, this is all over.

It's amazing how well we are doing with the ball.

And it's oncredible how BADLY Kohli is doing with the bat.

Steve Smith might be #1 in the world shortly.

Interesting start to Day 4 so far. Good work by Oz with the cherry and a surprisingly decent 10th wicket stand by India.

Australia are the favorites to win but it wont be easy, I say currently Australia will likely win by 2 wickets.
