I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Tom Perriello wins the presidency in 2024 after a term as Governor of Virginia,  with an outside chance of Pence either succeeding Trump due to resignation or winning in 2020 if Trump forgoes reelection.

Most likely:

1. Pence (death, resignation, or removal of Donald Trump)
2. Romney (Pence resigns first...Romney would take the role of Gerald Ford).
3. Ryan (third in line)
4. Hagel (lesser chance than Romney under the circumstances)
5. Democratic nominee of 2020
6. Democratic nominee of 2024
7. some general in the wake of a military coup
8. Republican nominee of 2024

Why on Earth would Trump pick either Romney or Hagel to be his vice president in the event that Pence resigns?

And why would that scenario of first Pence then Trump resigning be more likely than Trump simply serving out the rest of his term and then someone else being elected in 2020 (or 2024)?

The only scenarios I can envision where Pence becomes the 46th President is one where either

a) Trump is impeached

b) Trump resigns

or

c) Trump is assassinated

If none of those things happen, the 46th President is most likely going to be a Democrat.

He could also die of natural causes (or an accident....people die for reasons other than assassination all the time).  I mean, he's 70 years old, and apparently has a terrible diet with little exercise.  Can't imagine that his heart is in the greatest shape.

IMO:

1. Mike Pence (Trump resigns/keels over/gets impeached)
2. Steve Bullock (Popular Democratic governor of a deep red state- I get major Bill Clinton vibes from him)
3. Kamala Harris (Charismatic as all hell- could run an Obama-esque campaign)
4. Kirsten Gillibrand (all of the upside of Hillary with little of the downside)
5. Paul Ryan (Russiagate goes really south, and both Trump and Pence are brought down)

Mike Pence will be elected in 2024 after two terms of the Trump.

I take it you believe California will secede in the next eight years?

Iirc California has not decided an election in several decades? (ie flip California and the winner does not change)

I think the odds of Pence becoming POTUS due to a Trump assassination/death/health-related incapacitation are much higher than people are willing to admit.

It is still really hard to imagine as likely as it is. Its also pretty hard to imagine the pendulum swinging back though it is always hard to imagine it.

Do you a presidential death as hard to imagine? Cause I do, especially considering the after effects. Can you imagine people eulogizing Trump? What his supporters would do, even if he died of natural causes? The conspiracies?

As much as I hate Trump, I think if he were to die in office it could lead to some really awful stuff.

A prominent online news personality has already predicted (on November 9, 2016) that Elizabeth Warren would trounce Donald Trump in a landslide in 2020. This person also predicted (in 2013) that Marco Rubio would fade (and thus not be the Republican nominee in 2016). I wonder how we'll look back on this prediction...

46th President of The United States-

1.) Corey Booker-Probably the most electable Dem right now for President.
2.) Steve Bullock-Can appeal to Obama/Trump swing voters
3.) Tim Canova-Former Primary Challenger to Debbie Wasserman-Shultz in 2016. I think he might run in 2020. Maybe he can bring Progressive ideas mainstream like Ronald Reagan brought Conservative ideas mainstream in 1980.
4.) Kirsten Gillibrand-Because everybody knows she is running in 2020.

No he is too right-wing to be electable for President.
