Awful. The last attempt of Obama to retain as much control as possible. Ellison will be marginalised by the establishment.

Wait. Wait. You would rather have a Neoliberal Fascist as America's President who isn't willing to change than a somewhat moderate but who is willing to change ?

In fairness, the pre-election DNC preferred Trump winning to Bernie winning.

Is it too much to ask neoliberal Democratic hacks to actually learn anything from their embarrassing defeat 3 months ago?

I'm not asking them to change their minds (it's not like Ellison was a socialist, after all) but just to stop thinking the party is their property.

Yes it is too much to ask. Some of them voted for Perez just to spite Bernie supporters. Hell, you want to keep bleeding left-wing support to the Green Party, keep doing what you're doing.

Rich to claim that the Bernie people are the ones who made this a proxy war when it initially looked like Ellison was a consensus choice before Obama rustled up someone to run against him for muh ceremonial post of no real consequence.

This.

Seconded. If there is no real consequence to the position and Ellison and Perez are so similar, then why did Obama make him take the plunge when Ellison seemed poised for a relatively simple victory?

Answer: Obama doesn't want to see his power disappear. Like it or not, many progressives are disappointed in Obama, particularly in regards to Obamacare (which was originally designed as the Republican counter to single-payer) and whistleblowers.

Aaand they just struck down a ban on corporate lobbyists. Where was the DNC saviour Perez? Ellison was one of its storngest supporters. Were was The Great Saviour Perez?

Bu-but omegascarlet said Ellison and Perez were both far-left!

To be absolutely clear, Perez was not a big cheerleader for the ban. I'll give him credit here; mostly he seems lukewarm on lobbyists, at least a lot less cozy with them than some, but he even neglected to say that.

Certainly doesn't help the optics of the situation, particularly when the favourite among the Sanders wing was the ban's biggest supporter.
