I have an idea for an amendment that I think is sorely needed.

In recent years, there's been a pandemic of people hiding behind freedom of religion to abuse people in their care. What I'm talking about specifically is "faith-based" residential "treatment" centers for young people. The people running them often abuse kids, and then they escape any kind of criminal charges by arguing that they're just practicing religious freedom. Some states simply won't regulate "faith-based" programs.

I would like to see this abuse stopped, and I think an amendment may be necessary because of activist judges siding with the abusers.

Judges biased towards religion?  What country do you live in?

Yeah, I'm not even sure what OP is referring to since violence against children is pretty uniformly illegal and I cannot think of a case where freedom of religion has been used as an excuse to deliberate violence against others. I'm assuming gay conversion therapy?

That's one example, but there's others too. There's a lot of "faith-based" programs that use various forms of violence and torture.

Such as?

There is one in northern Indiana. I took part in a protest to try to have it shut down.

What does it do? I don't disbelieve you, and I certainly don't disbelieve that it's in northern Indiana, but please be more specific.

It's run by some preacher, and it's been meting out physical abuse to teenage girls for decades.

I'm not sure that sort of thing is specific to religious based programs only, sadly.

There was a recent episode of the radio program Reveal that detailed how in a lot of states, religious day cares are not subject to state regulation and have extensive records of mistreating children, sometimes to the point of death, that the law is powerless to do anything about.
