Did he plan the operation to its last detail? It's not his job. He tells the generals what to do and they do it. Had the Abbottabad raid failed, I'd have blamed Obama for invading Pakistan's sovereignty but not for the operational failure itself. The whole military-industrial complex needs to be reigned in and the generals (who as the Petraeus/Jill Kelly episode proves are part of a rather distant social elite themselves) are not exempt from this.

The hallmark of good leadership, especially in the military, is someone who deflects all praise and absorbs all criticism. I expect Trump to do a lot of the opposite.
