I give him a low B. The Russia dig was ludicrous.

B. Nothing particularly bad, but not exactly inspiring either.

My only criticism is that he wasn't harsh enough on Russia.

He was fine. The point of the response is not to fire up the liberal base, but to appeal to the independents and Republicans who are tuning in to watch Trump and still have the TV on.

And he has a hell of a lot more experience winning over white working class voters than most Democrats, since apparently the WWC is the most important voting bloc now.

atm, cause of the EC, they are, as long as the democrats aren't ready to double down on the party of the raising south/west, which are long-term-trending democratic. but i guess, a voice able to connect to mid-western voters wouldn't be totally wrong for also increasing chances with southern suburbanites.

I'm a neoconservative (and that label has been in my signature for a week or so) and I hope to see the Democratic Party in the future take the mantle of being interventionist and tough on kleptocratic  governments like Russia.

But yes, my comment was written in part to get under your nerves Smiley

-Yeah; that's exactly why I reported it for trolling.

I want the Democratic Party to look more like jfern; the GOP to look more like Ron Paul.

ron paul hates the speech.

-I don't "love" the speech; I just like it. Yes; Paul would be a better President than Trump. But Trump is a better president than [insert GOP candidate here].

I really liked the Democratic response. Perhaps could have gone without other people in the diner, but the speech did all it was supposed to. It gave a unifying message for Democrats that would also appeal to nonpolitical or Republican-leaning working class people. Focus on the real lives, the kitchen table issues, common sense with the world, and appealing to basic decency. If he was 10 years younger I think fewer pundits would be criticizing it.

I give it a solid A. He hit all the right points, incorporated his uniquely American background, and discussed only the issues where Democrats have the broadest appeal. This is what we need more of from the Democratic Party.

B. If Steve Beshear were considered a major presidential contender or if this were an important speech I'd rate it lower.

B. He made his points respectfully, but it was boring. The diner was a nice touch though.

Well it wasn't Jindal bad. I actually thought the live setting was pretty clever. I hope that becomes a tradition in official responses to the President.
