President-elect Jim Webb at his campaign headquarters in Richmond, VA, after winning the 2016 presidential election

November 8, 2016:

The night had finally arrived. After a long and tireless season of campaigning, Senator Webb traveled to his home state of Virginia to await the results with his running mate, fellow Senator Jon Tester. While Webb floundered in his first debate with Florida Senator Marco Rubio, he managed to do better in the town hall debate, yet the third debate was a tossup between him and Rubio.

While most Republicans filed behind Senator Rubio, the Democratic Party was much more fractured. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders refused to endorse Webb, along with several other "progressive" politicians, and even President Obama was reluctant to endorse Senator Webb for the presidency. Webb, however, had significantly more appeal to independents compared to Rubio, mostly do to his moderate and centrist stances on most issues.

The one major issue between the candidates, which would be extremely defining between the candidates, was trade and foreign policy. Senator Rubio had favored the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership and was a neoconservative in terms of foreign policy. Webb, on the other hand, frequently spoke against TPP and was a strong supporter of isolationism.

Electoral Map - 9:00 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 123 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 123 EV

Both candidates are sweating bullets as they are currently tied in the electoral college. Rubio is maintaining a lead in his home state of Florida and his running mate's home state of Ohio and the state of South Carolina, however Webb is leading Pennsylvania, his home state of Virginia, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. North Carolina, Georgia, and Missouri are tied in the polls, while Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico have less than 1% reporting.

Electoral Map - 9:30 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 166 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 132 EV
Over the last thirty minutes, South Carolina was called for Rubio/Kasich, while Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Webb's home state of Virginia were called for Webb/Tester.

Electoral Map - 10:00 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 166 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 138 EV
Polls have closed in Iowa, Montana, and Utah. Utah has been safely called for Rubio/Kasich.

Electoral Map - 10:30 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 167 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 199 EV

The Rubio Headquarters in Miami is in high spirits as Ohio, a state that has decided every President since 1964, has been called for Rubio/Kasich, along with his home state of Florida, and the states of Arizona and Montana. In the past hour, Webb has only gained one new electoral vote from Maine's 2nd Congressional District. The Webb campaign, however, remains hopeful that West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Missouri will swing their favor, which could jeopardize Rubio's chances easily, however both states have the candidates tied.

Electoral Map - 11:00 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 260 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 203 EV

Prior to California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington being swiftly called for Webb/Tester, the Webb campaign's hopes came true as West Virginia, a solid-red state since 2000, cast its votes for Jim Webb and Jon Tester. Despite Rubio holding a lead in Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico, Webb began to pull ahead in North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, and New Hampshire. The energy at Rubio's HQ began to fade as the New York Times began projecting Jim Webb's chances of victory at 95%.

Electoral Map - 11:15 PM EST -

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 264 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 203 EV

New Hampshire has been called for Webb/Tester.
Electoral Map - 11:24 PM EST -

BREAKING - NORTH CAROLINA CALLED FOR WEBB/TESTER - JIM WEBB WINS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA)/Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) - 279 EV
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Governor John Kasich (R-OH) - 203 EV

11:45 PM EST - Richmond, Virginia -

President-elect Webb declares victory

With his large group of energetic supporters in front of him, the Senator proudly announced that Marco Rubio had just conceded the election. Webb thanked his supporters for his help and promised to help working-class families, end needless foreign wars, and to protect the Constitution.

12:00 PM EST - Miami, Florida -

Marco Rubio officially concedes election

In a gloomy speech to his supporters, Senator Rubio agreed to concede the election to President-elect Jim Webb and Vice President-elect Jon Tester. Rubio urged his supporters to give President-elect Webb a chance to serve and thanked them for their support.

More to come...

Looks great!
I'd definitely be a reluctant Rubio supporter in such an election. I'm interested in the primary- how did Webb and Rubio win?

Thank you!

My idea for the Democratic primaries is this:

1. Bernie Sanders declines to run for President in 2016, giving Webb much more anti-establishment momentum than expected. Maybe a generic Democrat runs in his place, but barely garners any support between Secretary Clinton and Senator Webb.

2. Webb does much better in the primary debates; he's given his fair share of time Tongue

3. During the primaries, Webb defeats Clinton in Iowa, but Clinton wins in New Hampshire. The south is divided up, however most of the deep south goes to Clinton, while Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, and Texas go to Senator Webb. Webb carries most of the states Sanders carried (sans Washington, Oregon, and Vermont), along with Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Missouri, Arizona, Nevada, and Ohio. Hillary is bogged down Wikileaks' attacks and her flip-flop support of TPP, allowing Webb to secure the working class in key states. Once I find a way to make a primary map, I'll post it ASAP so you can see what happens between Webb and Clinton.

Now for the Republicans:

The biggest thing that happens is Trump just doesn't run. I guess the POD here is that Seth Meyers doesn't make that joke about him running for President at the 2011 Correspondents dinner. Here's a list of what happens:

1. Ted Cruz wins in Iowa (like OTL), however Marco Rubio wins in New Hampshire. Cruz then wins in South Carolina, while Rubio wins in Nevada. The top three contenders narrow down to Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich.

2. On Super Tuesday, Ted Cruz wins in Alabama, Alaska (OTL), Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma (OTL), and Texas (OTL), Marco Rubio wins in Minnesota (OTL) and Virginia, while John Kasich wins in Massachusetts and Vermont. Between March 5-12, Ted Cruz wins in Idaho (OTL), Kansas (OTL), Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine (OTL), and Mississippi, Marco Rubio wins in Puerto Rico (OTL), Hawaii, and Washington, D.C. (OTL), and John Kasich wins in Michigan.

3. On Super Tuesday II, Marco Rubio wins his home state of Florida, Illinois, and the Northern Mariana Islands, Cruz wins Missouri and North Carolina, and Kasich wins his home state of Ohio. Cruz's dominance is polls begins to shrink as Rubio carries bigger states. Between March 22 and April 19, Marco Rubio wins in Arizona, Wisconsin, Colorado, and New York, while Ted Cruz wins in Utah, North Dakota, and Wyoming. On April 19, John Kasich withdraws, however three days later, he endorses Marco Rubio. On April 26, Marco Rubio wins ever Acela primary state. On May 3, Ted Cruz wins Indiana. Between May 10-24, Ted Cruz wins in Nebraska and West Virginia, while Rubio wins in Oregon and Washington. On June 7, Marco Rubio narrowly secures the nomination after winning in California, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota, while Cruz wins in Montana.

Manchin endorsed Hillary on 01/29/2014, Nelson on 12/18/2014, & Warner on 08/05/2014, all before the idea of endorsing an anti-establishment alternative even entered anybody's head IRL, so (considering Webb himself also ran IRL) what makes these endorsements change??

I was wrong with Warner and Nelson, I guess. I chose Warner because he was a fellow Virginian Senator and Nelson because he was a moderate and a military veteran. Manchin, on the other hand, did not outright endorse Hillary in that video. Hillary was a somewhat different politician in 2014. Keep in mind, West Virginia overwhelmingly supported her in the primaries in 2008, but overwhelmingly destroyed her in the 2016 primaries. It wouldn't be too hard for Manchin to endorse Senator Webb over her due to her shifting beliefs.

The Webb Cabinet

Secretary of State - Gary Locke

Locke, the former U.S. Ambassador to China and former Governor of Washington, was announced by President-elect Webb on December 5, 2016 at a joint press conference. Pundits agree that Gary Locke is a safe and/or neutral choice for Secretary of State.

Secretary of Treasury - Robert Reich

Robert Reich, the former Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton, was announced by President-elect Webb on December 2, 2016. Many pundits believe that Reich, while controversial, is President-elect Webb's attempt at extending an olive branch to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Reich has frequently condemned the Federal Reserve and believes in greater transparency in that body, a believe him and Webb have shared.

Secretary of Defense - James Mattis

Mattis, a retired United States Marine Corps 4-star General, was announced by President-elect Webb on December 1, 2016. Mattis, as a military commander, never got involved in politics and has declined to join any political party. Both Webb and Mattis are combat veterans and have served honorably in the Marines. The selection of Mattis received praise from both parties.

Attorney General - Deval Patrick

Patrick, the former Governor of Massachusetts and former Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under President Bill Clinton, was announced by President-elect Webb on November 28, 2016. Webb cited Patrick's history of defending civil rights for his selection.

More coming soon; I have a big test to study for and I wanted to get the "major" cabinet positions posted
