Reminds me of a common argument in the Eastern Bloc during Cold War: "but in American you're beating up Negroes".

It's such an easy defense (and everyone of us has done it I would imagine), not a good one obviously, but it sure is easy.

     There's a reason why hardly anyone pushes their political allies to be better; there's little value to cleaning house and being more ethical when your opponents will do nothing of the sort.
