"How stupid are the people of Iowa?!"

Tilt FS, I'm temporarily living in Iowa atm. It's pretty bad, but it's not as bad as everyone says it is.

I still vote FS for my birth state, even though its strong support for Trump was disappointing.

This should be in the off-topic board. This is individual politics.

As one who knows the state quite well, it is kind of a sad case.

Who is "us" and what does Iowa owe to it?

The civilized world, Tony. They voted for 'Lyin'' Ted Cruz in the Republican primaries, depressing everyone not related to Ted Cruz, and then, bamboozled by his sick 'negs', elected Donald Trump President in a desperate plea for validation, thus answering forever his eternal question 'how stupid are the people of Iowa, folks?' No other state has been this disappointing this consistently.

Well, if more States had supported Cruz in the primary like Iowa did, chances are your beloved Hillary would be President right now.

As one who knows the state quite well, it is kind of a sad case.

As one who knows the state quite well, I find this perplexing.

Why?

What, exactly, is "sad" about Iowa?  It has one of the lower poverty rates in the United States (10.9%), one of the lowest unemployement rates in the country (3.5%), the best high school graduation rate (90.8%) in the nation, one of the lower violent crime rates (273.5 per 100k people), places like Iowa City and Des Moines constantly rank highly on best places to live lists and CNBC ranked it the 9th best quality of living of all 50 states last summer.

But we grow CORN (who doesn't ing love corn, seriously, what's wrong with you?!), so it's boring.  Anyone who says Iowa is boring needs to go to Jazz Fest in Iowa City or a Hawkeyes football game or Hinterland Music Festival in Des Moines or the Jones County Fair in Monticello.  If those types of things aren't your cup of tea, fine ... hardly "sad," though.  Iowa is a great place to live, and at the very least know this: no one in Iowa is looking west or east at either coast and longing to be there, as many see them as cool areas to visit that have a WHOLE lot of problems, too.

Corn is a junk crop that only exists as an industry because of scams and handouts.

It bothers me how its first-in-the-nation status allows it to demand loads of corn subsidies, because every bleary no-name politician has a completely unrealistic dream of becoming President.

I'm not a fan of the Midwest in general, and it has nothing to politics.

I know a guy from Iowa and he's as sweet as pie... so they must be really nice in Iowa, I'm assuming.
