citing unfinished business, former president bush instructs junior and jeb to wait their turn as he runs for a second unconsecutive term in 2000.

due to his advanced age, bush chooses youthful illinois maverick senator fitzgerald as his running mate.

how would have bush/fitzgerald matched up against gore/lieberman in 2000?

maps please.

OK, HW persuades Jr and Jeb, in particular Jr, not to run for President in 2000.

However, how does HW sideline McCain, who clearly was intent on running?  McCain would have decimated HW in the primaries.

Fitzgerald would have been no help at all on the ticket.

Anyway, I believe with HW, the election would go something like this

Gore/Lieberman            367
HW Bush/Fitzgerald      171

Interesting theoretical race though.

i think george hw bush would have done better than his son in northern states and suburban areas.  however, i think he would have fared worse than w. in the populist leaning states.

he would have eeked out a victory against gore.

Gore wins by about 5-7% nationally and adds MO, AR, TN, NV, NH, WV, FL, and OH to his column.  The 63% of voters in 1992 who sent Bush out of office the first time don't go away.

Actually, when I saw early Republican polling in 1997 or so listing George Bush as the front-runner, I thought "Poppy's making a comeback?"

I think that in this scenario, McCain would easily defeat Bush Sr. for the GOP nomination. However, if Bush Sr. is the GOP nominee against Gore, Gore defeats him in a landslide.

I thought that you could only serve 2 terms if they were consecutive and only as long as your time in the white house didn't exceed 10 years.

No, you can serve two non-consecutive terms if you want. The ten years limit is true, even though you can only be elected President a maximum of two times (it doesn't matter whether or not they are consecutive).

Wrong. You can get elected, serve full term, then get defeater or retire and comeback for another.

I thought we explained it to you, troll.
