Here are like 21 reasons why its the bomb:

1. Sheetz.  It's like heaven to any hungry person in their 20s at 2 in the morning.
2. Wawa.  Another awesome place to get food.
3. Coal.  The Lackawanna Coal Mines are a great place to learn about the history of anthracite coal, and see how the boys worked down there.
4. Liberty Bell/Independence Hall.  It's a sight to behold.
5. Philadelphia in general - especially the "tree" streets (Walnut, Pine, Chestnut).  Also hit the Reading Terminal Market for food!
6. Amish Country - Best apple butter in the world.
7. The Fulton Steamboat Inn - https://gcaggiano.files.wordpress.com/2016/05/64616695.jpg
8. Harrisburg- probably one of the top 5 prettiest state capitols in the country
9. Crystal Cave - http:// [url]http://www.crystalcavepa.com//url]
10. The Franklin Institute in Philly - walk through a human heart
11. Hello...like the nation was created here.
12. Gettysburg - do the haunted stuff, and they have an excellent wax museum
13. Bethlehem Steel - okay so its gone but its a casino now.
14. Snack foods - PA is the chips and pretzels capital of the world.
15. Hershey's Chocolate River - yes theres a river of chocolate.
16. Swing state - politics is never dull here.
17. Crayola crayons in Easton
18. Bethlehem at Christmastime
19. Great colleges
20. The Molly Maguires and Eckley Miners' Village
21. Centralia - a ghost town with fire burning out of the Earth since 1962

Anyone else from PA here?

West Virginia, is "almost heaven" because when you are in West Virginia, you are almost to Pennsylvania.

Eastern PA is nice. I'm not as familiar with the rest of the state but I'm sure it's fine as well, despite politics.

went there and intentionally avoided the haunted stuff, it sounded touristy. Didn't go to the wax museum either, just drove around the battlefield. Listened to this guy (with a California accent - blech!!!) narration loaded with artsy attempts to make it dramatic, after specifically asking for a boring and bookish version.

that is incredibly depressing. If I want gambling and I'm not up to drive to Reno or wherever, I'll head down to the Ohio River in Indiana, not abandoned mills in PA that will just remind me that the bosses are counting their cash from their docile Asian workers.

I can already buy those at the store though.

The bottom of the river is where they hide the passports stolen from migrant workers that were promised an opportunity to immigrate to America. Instead, once the labor contract expires, they get to leave. All these jobs really belong to the local population of the area, not to foreigners, and if foreigners are to come - if there really is a shortage of labor not created by wage stagnation (tbh there probably isn't) - then any incoming foreigners ought to be treated like people.

I already live in the mother of all swing states. It's going to keep being a swing state unless those evil neoliberal rich city slickers take over and kick out all the economic populists in favor of "woke" nutjobs who want to abolish gender from the census or whatever they're up to. If that happens, and I wanted to live in a swing state, I wouldn't choose Pennsylvania because our politics would become South African and PA would be Likely R at least.

Definitely a Freedom State, it's my favorite state North of the Potomac. I like the whole state (although I'd say I prefer Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, they're both interesting places).

It's a great state but New Hampshire is typically ranked as the freest state.  I saw reason.com had Florida ranked first.

Isn't that the state where you can only by alcohol in state run dispensaries?  Not sure how you can get from there to "biggest Freedom State".

The cities of Philadelphia, Lancaster, and Pittsburgh are the only things that prevent PA from being, say, Iowa or Indiana.

How can it be a Freedom State if it's supposed to be a Freedom Commonwealth instead? Wink

West Virginia, is "almost heaven" because when you are in West Virginia, you are almost to Pennsylvania.
Almost in Kentucky, you mean. Smiley
