I find it absolutely disgusting that the media (including leftists) are trotting out George W Bush and helping to repair his public image because they hate Trump more at the moment. Matt Lauer and Ellen f**king Degeneres letting him grandstand on Muslims and freedom of the press? The man whose neglect led to 9/11, who knowingly lied us into war, who targeted gays in order to drive up conservative turnout for his reelection? Are you kidding me?

you can think of someone as a war criminal and still think of him as a more decent human begint than the current president.

Bill was very much rehabilitated in spite of Hillary by the right just because "muh Obama is the anti-Christ", literally took Trump's whining about the scandals of the past.

JFK's absurdly been rehabilitated by the right too because "muh tax cut".

And mark my words, the liberal that succeeds Trump and inevitably becomes the new anti-Christ will rehabilitate Obama to the same right [actually, Hillary being the opponent already sorta did started that...ironic considering how 2008 went]...and should Reaganomics be overthrown entirely for an Overton shift to the Left...mark my words Obama would be "The Last True Conservative".

Hate to use this cliche, but "both sides do it" is actually apt here.

Funny how the Democratic Party is starting to look at neoconservative slimbags as being allies against Trump.

I've seen about ten thousand takes about how Bush is being rehabilitated in light of Trump and basically zero actually evidence that Bush is being rehabilitated in light of Trump.

If I were to consider George W., I must say that he stands out as a good man compared to Clinton, Obama, and Trump.

Opinion polling suggests that Bush had already been rehabilitated in the public mind by 2013-14. Trump has nothing to do with it.

Most Americans always really liked Bush deep down. As evidenced by his great numbers.  The relentless and classless attacks on his character drove them down, but once those stopped he naturally bounced right back.

It's why I hoped Jeb would be the nominee: so the nascent Bush rehabilitation could be smashed once more (much like Hillary 2016 destroyed much of the Bill nostalgia that was floating about).

It's astonishing to me that this is happening so soon. I knew a guy in high school who insisted that Bush would still be hated in a thousand years. I thought he was offbase and said as much, but I could not have predicted the reality; it turns out that the worm is turning in less than a decade.

I'm sure the "nostalgia factor" plays at least a decent role in this. It's been more than eight years since Bush was president and more than sixteen since he was elected, so it's been a while since he was fresh in people's minds. Also, since he is/was no longer president, the media stopped its constant bashing of him. These two factors, combined with nostalgia (and people's longing for the good old days) have probably helped Dubya's approval rating.

Those idiots ignore a key aspect: it was Bush's mess that helped Trump get there eventually.

Yeah, "classless" attacks on Mr. "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere". What character?

George W. Bush was well-intentioned, but misguided and incompetent.

I don't believe for a second that Donald Trump has good intentions.
