I didn’t realize this.  I just came across it while looking for something else, but I guess she was an Asian Studies major in college, and went by the name Lu Tian Na when she studied in China and Taiwan:

(story is from way back in 2009)

And here is a picture of a college-aged Kirsten (second from right) in Beijing, back in 1986:

Are there any early primary states where she can exploit this?  Nevada has a relatively large Asian-American population, though I think it’s more Filipino than Chinese.  Maybe that’s close enough?  Tongue

And as long as we’re on the topic of Gillibrand, here’s another fun fact I recently discovered.  Apparently she gets along well with Ted Cruz(!):

Worked for Huntsman!

In all seriousness, I'm not a huge fan but that is impressive.

The states with the highest asian populations are Hawaii with 57% and California with 14%. Considering that Chinese Americans only consist of 25% of all Asian Americans, it is unlikely to have an election turning effect. That equals out to 1.2% of all Americans and you have to take out all the Chinese Americans that can't speak Chinese.

All in all, it will probably have only a very small effect if any on the electorate.

That picture is fantastic. Maybe she and John Huntsman can start the Alliance Party, which runs on a bipartisan, bilingual platform of turning our world into the Firefly Universe.

I'd support this. They can resurrect Herbert Hoover while they're at it.

You know... it would probably help her as much as John Kerry knowing French helped him in 2004, right?

Anyone know if there's a clip of her speaking Chinese?

It could help her in the Democratic primaries. It doesn't take much to pander to Asian-Americans, we went nuts when a clip of Hillary and Chuck Schumer trying bubble tea surfaced lat year.

If this is a real tweet... How ignorant can our President possibly be... Chinese is supposedly one of the hardest languages to learn & doing so should certainly be praised- not ridiculed!

It is fake; I don't believe Trump has ever called out specifically Gillibrand in a tweet. You can probably attach 'yet' to that statement, on the other hand.

Chinese orthography is indeed incredibly difficult to learn, but Chinese grammar is fairly straightforward and is much easier to learn than many languages which are actually closer to English genealogically (like my native Russian).

Gillibrand does seem to have impressive credentials.

What did Gillibrand to for Huntsman (he's one of the few Repub candidates for President of the past couple of elections that I would have been ok with).

How is it not obvious that the tweet was fake?  Like I said in the OP, the article I posted was written years ago.  Why would Trump be tweeting about it now, on the same day that I posted it here?

I didn't say it wasn't obvious.

No problem.  I don't think there was much more to discussion to be had anyway.
