This is not unexpected. If the Dems want to introduce a bill in time to do some serious grandstanding ahead of the 2018 midterms they need to start relatively soon.

"Democrats"?

If that's anything more serious than the efforts various Republicans made concerning impeaching Obama, I'd be shocked. It's certainly not anything the leadership would be seeking at this point. Trump's demonstrated that he's a cowardly bully with a very large lack of impulse control who is incapable of discerning the difference between fake news and fact. But while that may be a reason to invoke the 25th if Trump can't return to the modicum of self-control he's shown himself capable of on occasion, it's not a high crime or misdemeanor.

I'd much rather see him thrown in jail, just so we can go #LockHimUp! #LockHimUp! #LockHimUp!

Impeachment bills are introduced against pretty much every president... they were introduced against Obama, Bush 43 etc...

Question is whether such a bill finds widespread support in Congress, like the one against Bill Clinton for his blowjob.

Poor old Trumpy.

That looks like a dubious source

It would be easier to get him on the Emoluments clause rather than Russia
Get him? Why would the Dems want the Impeachment bill to actually succeed? The whole point of them introducing an impeachment bill at this stage would be to make it a big granstanding issue to fire up their base and make this an issue for the 2018 midterms. For that they would need maximum support from House Democrats and minimum support from House Republicans. If they can get people to line up 100% on party lines on this that would be ideal for them.

The 'Russia' issue is ideal for this purpose. Firstly the thinness of the charges against Trump and his campaign, the fact that they're based on a lot of innuendo, insinuation and spin with no actual points of data that stand up to close inspection helps as does the earliness of bringing such a bill. The emotiveness of the charges are ideal for grandstanding for the Dems.

Making the Republicans go on the record this early on the impeachment issue making it explicitly partisan might make it even more difficult to get an actual impeachment later down the road with cross party support but I don't think there was much chance of that anyway. Besides which why would that be an issue anyway for the Dems? It just gives them a chance to recycle this issue for at least two election cycles which they might consider to be a bonus for them.

I guess if Trump ever got impeached or had to resign, finally the Democrats would start putting up a fight over whatever the GOP's healthcare bill is when all the Russia stuff is out of the way.

I hope they let it come to a vote in the house. It would be terrible press for democrats and those in marginal districts would have to choose between sanity and base pleasing.
