There are probably at least 20,000 of them in WV.

Most of them are misguided people whom the left should strive to convince rather than demonize.

Yeah, this sounds about right. They are people who I am worlds apart from, politically speaking, but they don't deserve the hate that some people on the left have for them

Either stupid, or just anti-Hillary rather than pro-Bernie. If they truly supported what Sanders stood for, they would not have helped Trump win.

Probably didn't even listen to Hillary's acceptance speech at the convention; too biased against Clinton to hear that she supported much of Bernie's agenda.  How could people enthused over Bernie's health care ideas seriously think that backing Trump over Hillary was such a good idea?  Maybe they weren't all stupid, but most of them were ill-informed or too anti-Clinton to support her no matter what she said.

There were also many Sanders voters in the primaries who would not have supported him in the general election.  Sanders obviously would not have defeated Trump in West Virginia or Oklahoma.

Even if stupid is the best word, it's frustrating that the failure of Democrats to stick together has resulted in the victory of a trash-talking demagogue.  If you really believed in Sanders's ideas, the choice between Clinton and Trump couldn't have been more obvious.  It wasn't even choosing the lesser of two evils, because Hillary is not evil.

It's true that telling them they're stupid won't work, and I wouldn't do that publicly, and I wouldn't do that if I were in charge of Democratic messaging.  These people aren't necessarily evil, but most of them were unaware that Hillary supported most of the policies Bernie pushed for, or they were just blindly anti-Clinton, or they had no intention of electing a progressive (whether Clinton or Sanders) in the first place.

Of course Hillary's evil. There's no doubt about that. The question is if that's reason enough for a normally progressive Democrat to vote for Trump. I'm not a progressive Democrat, so I can't give an unbiased answer to this question.

All you have to do is Replace "Hillary" with "Trump" and "progressive Democrat" with "conservative Republican", and this statement sounds like something one of our red avatars would make.

The most fundamental problem in politics is that (a) demonizing the electorate is one of the dumbest things you can do and (b) the electorate is the worst.
