Steve King has become pretty openly racist of late. Remember a few months ago where he asked what non-whites had contributed to civilization?

Obama got 45% of the vote in 2012 and won it in 2008 while Hillary got 34%, I think the district is doable in the right year and with the right candidate.

I just looked up his district and learned that it is over 95% white. Go figure.

there's a difference between quoting Spencer, Taylor and the like - and just saying garden variety nationalist stuff that Bannon or Coulter have been saying for years.

Yeah but saying he wants a society where people "basically all look the same" or w/e is rapidly approaching Spencer Territory.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but Steve KKKing has dodged the draft multiple times by using deferments.

Who cares? He says stupid things. He'll be reelected until he retires. Steve King does great work for his constituency, even if he is crazy.

By that logic, any corrupt or racist or crazy or perverted congressperson should keep being reelected so long as they deliver for their district.

He's gotta go. Again, if this type of sentiment takes over the GOP, I'm out.

Good for him, the draft was an immoral travesty.

How is his district only R+4?

Also how the heck does PVI work if the winner of the Presidency didn't win the popular vote?

EDIT: I suppose it's worth noting King only beat his primary opponent by about 30 points. If people get worked up enough that there are economic ramifications in the 4th, maybe some magic can happen.

It stampeded right even more than the other districts in the state, just so you know. He has it as long as he wants.

I've never gotten the idea that we shouldn't care if someone in a Safe R/D district or state says something outrageous. So, if someone in a Safe D district called for white genocide, would Republicans be saying "well, we would criticize this person, but they can't lose re-election, so we might as well not say anything"? I couldn't care less what the PVI of King's district is, he's a vile POS and ought to be called out for his lunacy.

He's pretty clearly meaning "White culture".

Like, I know there's the knee-jerk "Liberals call everyone racist!" reaction, but c'mon man. Draw the line here.

If he wanted to prove that he wasn't a total scumbag, he'd have burnt his draft card.

No, he's meaning American culture and it being overrun by people from regressive ideologies who do not assimilate and likewise do not encourage their children to do so. This is manufactured outrage and you know it.

That was my interpretation of his comments as well, although other posters are not wrong when they say that King is a bit of a kook.

Oh come on. "Americans are culturally superior" is a racist argument.

Also he literally said "Western Civilization."

I can't help but feel like I've seen this "unassimilable" talking point before. Maybe it was at some point while I was a Japanese major? I can't think why, but that seems like it could be it.
