What Al is discovering is that he is not suited to live radio, andymore than Rush was suited to doing a taped TV show.  The two media are completely different and Air America relies too much on non-radio personalities at the moment.

Well, duh...

There was a presidential race during that time.  MoveOn was running commercials.  F 9/11 was in the theaters.  There were things to talk about and there were people interested in political news.

Air America hasn't found a way to keep listeners now that the campaign is over.

The difference between Rush and AAR is that Rush is a career entertainer who worked his way up in the radio business by the only way that works: getting ratings.  AAR is primarily an anti-Bush political campaign--they want votes, not ratings.  They targeted Bush and failed, and now Bush will probably never run for public office again.  It's like "Eight Simple Rules" after Ritter died.

Even the DUers now have little to say about Air America.  It seems to me that AAR's base has had declining interested over the past few months.

I don't really like Air America...it seems boring to listen to people just say things you agree with.  It's much more entertaining to listen to people with opposed points of view, get riled up, and try to think of the counterarguments and flaws in their reasoning yourself.

I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh quite often, and found him pretty entertaining.  Although I can't stand Sean Hannity...he just seems to repeat the GOP party line and have almost no original thoughts or even a sense of humor.

I heard a commercial for Air America in New Orleans. That won't last long. I never listen to AM unless there is something big news wise or the Saints are playing.

Yes, they do have trouble getting an audience, but they are great sucesses in getting taxpayer money!  See the following:

Did Al Franken's liberal radio network Air America divert city money for the elderly and inner-city children to itself? That's the question people should be asking this week after the revelation that the New York Department of Investigation is looking into whether hundreds of thousands of dollars were illegally transferred from a Bronx community center to Air America. Only a community paper and a few Internet bloggers seem interested in what could be an egregious case of illegal funneling of tax dollars to a private, partisan organization.
In late June, city officials designated the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club, a nonprofit organization that runs mentoring programs for children and day care for Alzheimer's patients, a "non-responsible city contractor." Investigators found "significant inappropriate transactions and falsified documents that were submitted to various City agencies." The city subsequently suspended the club's contracts, which run well into the millions.
It turns out, according to sources quoted anonymously by the Bronx News, that the mishandled money went to Air America. One source claims that $480,000 was wrongly transferred. The city investigation is concentrating on Charles Rosen, the club's president for 15 years, and Evan Cohen, the development director, who is a former chairman of Air America. Mr. Cohen resigned from Air America in May after the network's leasing plans in Chicago, San Francisco and elsewhere fell through.
No one has claimed that Messrs. Cohen or Rosen sought to profit personally from any transfers. The money was said to have been a "loan" from the community center to Air America, which Air America would repay with interest at some point in the future. But why the public till should be tapped to rescue a foundering news outlet was a question no one seemed to consider. Maybe Air America officers thought spending public funds on their network was a truly compelling public interest. It isn't, of course, and if the allegations are true, they reveal a misuse of tax dollars to support a partisan organization.
Air America's parent corporation Piquant LLC issued an "explanation" yesterday but did not deny the allegations. It instead tried to pin them on Air America's previous owners, on whose watch the transfer is said to have occured. That won't wash.
Most of the mainstream newspapers have ignored this story. We only found out about it through the reporting of Brian Maloney, who pieced a story together on his blog "The Radio Equalizer" which was picked up by syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin. The New York Daily News buried an item at the end of a column of news briefs. There was nothing in the New York Times, which has heaped flattering coverage on the flailing network.
Air America is struggling to find listeners, leaders and reliable funding. But should it take money from children and the ailing elderly? Al Franken and Randi Rhodes, ever the defenders of the "little guy," should explain this one.

And 1210 WPHT is MUCH better advertised.  Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, and Michael Smerconish is advertised on the back of SEPTA buses.  I would like to listen to 1340, but I can never get it.

All the so called evidence in this case is against the previous ownership.  Their is not an ioda of evidence or anything that traces this to the current ownership of Air America

Rushs' TV show was actually pretty good. I have read a lot of people would like to see it revived.

Yes, Limbaugh referred to Chelsea as the "family dog."  Keep in mind she was 13 at the time, so Limbaugh might have a thing for critiquing the attractiveness of young girls.

So, has the current regime at Air America repaid the loans?

WHAT has a crappy signal.  I think that could be the reason.

There is a problem with that being the reason.  WHAT's ratings were higher and the signal was just as crappy.  You might be able to tie poor ratings to a bad signal, but you cannot tie declining ratings to the same bad signal.

AL found that a strategy of working against someone isn't a good long term one.

Could that not tie into decreasing interest post-election?  After all, people oftentimes don't just suddenly stop listening, but rather steadily lose interest.

I think they have a decent control of our media.  This "liberal media" concept is utter BS.  I know people in TV that have told me this.  The Philadelphia papers have to tweak their papers left or they would alienate their audience.  Knight Ridder is a right wing conglomerate.  ANY place the media can draw right, they will.  Look at the NE Times and News Gleaner.  Of course NE Philly being left-center as opposed to the far left politics of the city as you may know gives newspapers more leeway to post more right wing material.  Unfortunately the NE Times could not continue and had to move left this past year because people were saying things like it is "Ann Coulter's Personal Blog" and the likes of Nicoletti, Mattia, and Dolan were given the mic much less because people were getting pissed that they were essentially the voice of the Northeast for a while.
