Whatever the new bill is, it's not passing. Murkowski and Collins will oppose it on ideological grounds (and what does it say about the GOP that I can tell any healthcare bill they propose will be cruel before it's even unrelieved?), as will McCain on procedural grounds.

This will probably be even more of a disaster than any of the previous attempts considering they basically pulled an all-nighter over the weekend to write a massive piece of legislation like it was a college paper.

*has 8 years to create new health care plan*

Congressional GOP: I'll do it the night before

Great.  Now every kid in the country doing an assignment at the last minute can say they were inspired by the Republicans.

Haha. ANOTHER new bill? Written in the space of a few days with zero input from key GOP votes nor the other party? This is hilarious and sad.

If my assumption that they started writing this new bill after McCain said he would vote no is correct, then the GOP wrote a bill concerning healthcare, perhaps the most sensitive, delicate, and important topic in politics today, in 48 hours.

More on Cruz and Lee:

So what can McConnell, Graham, and Cassidy do to get this bill passed? It's hard to see anything that gets Collins on board, and there don't appear to be any changes that can be made at this point to change McCain to a Yes. Paul will only switch to Yes if major changes are made, which could alienate people like Capito and Portman. It's hard to say what would be the tipping point for Murkowski. Cruz and Lee are probably only going No if this is going down anyway.

If there is any way for this bill to get passed, it would probably rely on Murkowski breaking with her past statements and taking large benefits for Alaska, and big structural changes that are good enough for Paul but not big enough to poison the bill for Capito and Portman types.

Moran should be in the undecided column.

Moran should be in the undecided column.

Or at least no more than Lean Yes.  Murkowski should probably be Lean No.

Moran should be in the undecided column.

What little I've heard about his position has a lot more of a "dodging the question" flavor, which a lot of senators have been doing when questioned alone. But I edited the post and moved him to Lean Yes to be cautious.

Politico got hold of the bill and the main difference seems to be giveaways to Arizona, Kentucky, and Alaska.

Cornhusker kickback x3 now. Just duplicitous s**t now and they're not even trying to hid it. McCain will still vote no, imo.

CBS News poll, Sep 21-24 on Graham-Cassidy:

Approve 20
Disapprove 55

R: 46/21
D: 2/84
I: 18/46

Strongly Approve 8
Strongly Disapprove 38

R: 19/10

Some other good questions as well in the poll.

If anything it could turn off teapublicans like Cruz. Completely morally bankrupt at this point.

Didn't Obamacare have something similar given to Louisiana to get Landrieu on board?

Regardless I doubt it working; both Collins and McCain citied that it was a host of other factors (planned parenthood ban, regular order, pre-existing conditions) that were stopping them from voting for it; it may work to help Murkowski get to yes if she's already leaning.

I distinctly remember something about a Louisianna purchase.

You may be confused with the 'Cornhusker Kickback' that the got Ben Nelson to vote for it(and that Kickback didn't end up in the final bill anyway)

It was in the final bill. It was just rolled back by the reconciliation bill. Agreed it's not in the final result, if you will, but it was signed into law at one point.

To think that Lisa Murkoswki, perhaps the walking personification of nepotism, has regularly showed more principle over the course of the Trump presidency than any of the Senate's "personable moderates" like Collins and Heller.

What a reality we've entered.
